Topic Dog Boards / General / Do you take your dog to work?
- By skyblue22 [gb] Date 27.12.05 11:28 UTC
Hi All,
Hope you had a good Christmas...I wanted to ask what jobs people do that let them take their dog to work with them, and how that works out?
Thanks.

My mum works in a small office and she always takes her GSD to work, sometimes she takes her JRT and Yorkie as well. Her boss is a dog lover and doesn't mind at all. There's a park just around the corner where the dogs are walked 2/3 times and the dogs are quite happy.

Working in the City, in London, I haven't taken any of ours to work with me.  However, they all, at one time or another, have been in Al's local office, and on the odd occasion, sneaked down to Asda's, where Adrian works (outside), and parked - with the back open - in a crate - and "accompanied" Adrian pushing his trolleys for a few minutes every hour or so.   This is totally against all Asda rules (or would be, if they had such a rule  ) but each dog has been so well-behaved when so engaged, and has hopped happily back into crate again, that local management have turned a blind eye........just as long as it isn't an every-day occurrence. :D

Nik intends to take Missie with him when he is working - as a landscape gardener, it should work out fine - he'll have a crate in the back of his landy, so she can snooze safely - and he says he's soon train her how to dig, prune, etc etc etc :D

Better not tell Rjj then Maybe my neighbour who is a gardener will take him along to do the heavy work-LOL he has a 3 foot hole & it's getting deeper by the day :D I'll be able to use it to plant a huge new tree LOLOLOL

.....It all started with Purdey - she was digging tunnels INTO the kennels....... now all the others seem to think that they have to dig in her honour - turn your back for 2 minutes and whoops - there's another :D

flynn comes with me everyday, i manage a  1hr photolab/shop.

his jobs are sniffing customers, posing for pictures to sell, test model for all the new digi cameras, & taking the money to the bank. & enticing BC people into the shop.
he drives my boss mad with the amount of hair that falls off him, but my boss likes him really. hes no trouble & generally just settles down in the back rooms where he has his bed.

As my boss is so good about Flynn,i dont try to bring them all in (although could in a emergancy & have done), in any case, my mum can walk the two girls, but couldnt manage flynn aswell. So it works out well for everyone!

Once he buryed his pigs ear in a tray of till reciepts!
hes also chucked up under my bosses desk TWICE, both times when my boss was in!!!!

I( would love to be able to take my dog to work but unfortunately I work at a hospital and the other secretary hates dogs.  She even pulls a face sometimes when I bring photo's :d

My friend also works at a hospital and her dogs are PAT dogs and she frequently takes hers into the office and the boss doesn't mind!  The lucky thing.  Of course it's not all day just when she has to take them in to see the patient's !

I'm a teacher - I often take my Malamute in with me - my BC doesn't like coming and my Lab has food allergies and school is full of dropped food so she can't  ...but Noobie loves it :)

Oh thanks everybody, that's great to hear! What a lot of lucky dogs! Especially Busydoggs! I used to be a teacher, but would NEVER have been allowed to bring my dog into school! You must have a very relaxed headteacher! And Michelle, lucky you, to be manager and have Flynn with you all day, that must make work much more bearable...
I know a gardener who takes his dog with him, the customers love it, and if they don't, she just stays in the car, and keeps an eye on things...

Most people out here in the wilds take their dogs to work with them if they work on the land. I also take Nipper to as many assignments as possible - I'm a photographer - and not only is he an appalling poser himself, he tends to help create the sort of "reportage" shots that I like to get when I'm covering events.

Beano comes with me every so often.
I am a landscape gardener, He just curls up in the front seat of the van while we work!!!
Gemma used to but as she is getting older she isnt able to get into the transit van very easily so I dont tend to take her anymore.

i work from home so they are with me always but when i go on vaccation i take them with me to a dog friendly place. People are starting to allow dogs in hotels and other places now because they are realising that most people dont like to leave their dpgs in kennels i would never take my dogs to a kennel dont trust them in my area

My OH runs an MOT testing station & I work for him part-time. Our two dogs absolutely love it there as they have a fan club of customers. They also get lots of fresh air & exercise in the fields nearby. If I was still nursing we wouldn't have been able to get the pup so having my OH for a boss does have some perks.
