Does anyone use this food for their GSD's? I am thinking of trying one of my girls on it to improve her coat which is thinning for reasons we cannot determine (checked by vets). Any information/views welcome
Thanks
Katrina

I have a GSD and we used to feed her Royal Canin. She loved it but was always hungry and if I increased it, it just gave her loose bowels. She had many health problems as well, so I decided to change her to a BARF regime. She has never looked back. It has now been 8 months without a single visit to the vets (we used to be there every week with one thing and another). Not only that, its also cheaper and she is in the best condition ever. I was very nervous at first (raw chicken bones always being a no-no before) but it's the best thing I ever did for my girl.

I'm considering going completely BARF as my great dane pup - picks out his raw meat and leaves him dry mix (skinners) ummmm!

hi china blue,

our GSD used to be on RC but after a couple of years on it all our dogs started loosing coat condidtion and were just dull looking. i dont know if they changed the formula or something. they didnt put any weight on and if i increased the food they got the runs.

they are now all on purina pro plan and look much better. we also give them  oily fish and this helps keep their coats shiny and full. i know some people who give cod liver oil not only for coat but joints etc as well. (we dont).

you may find if you try RC it works really well for your dog. it is a good quality food. just didnt agree with ours anymore.

Give the Royal Canin 'Sensible' a try.  It has a higher fat content and when my Dalmatian suddenly developed an on going upset tummy on the normal adult they suggested I tried him on that, they even gave me a free bag.

It worked a treat, but what works on one dog, may not work for another.  Funnily enough I have tried Pro Plan in the past and I lost coat shine on my Border Collie, where as the RC has always given her a lovely coat.

Thanks for the info.
I give my girl Omega 3, rather than cod liver oil. Her coat is in good condition (my vet thinks it's lovely) but I know that it is thinner than it should be. She has always been on the same diet, with her beautiful full coat, but for some reason that we just cannot fathom, the thinning has occurred. I'll give the 'sensible' a try!
