i read in one of the forums that my girl could be 2 days behind her pregnancy than i thought as it can yake upto 2 days for the sperm to reach the ovary. by my dates she was due on the 20th dec but if it is the way described she is due today. what is the latest a dog can go before going into labour, any thoughts would be appreciated as im getting very impatient, the only thing that has kept me sane with the build up to xmas is thought of having some puppys but people are telling me that she might not be pregnant but i have felt movement but because she is small people are doubting but i know my dog. i rang the vet and told him all her symptoms. she doesnt eat that much at the moment but has put on loads of weight but doesnt look fat he said that she wouldnt feel heavier in a phantom am i just worrying for nothing

A bitch can go over as much as she can deliver early :) I've had one go 5 days over but she only had the 2 puppies & I remember thinking they were never going to arrive!!
If you're really not 100% then you could take your girl to the Vets for a scan. Phantoms are funny things! I remember last year, my girl had a great mating, text book symptoms of being pregnant, she was definitely getting bigger but when she was scanned at 35 days there was nothing. This year when she was mated I was convinced she must have missed as absolutely no signs of being pregnant what so ever so I had quite a nice shock when the scan revealed 6 puppies!!
Mother Nature likes to keep us guessing & what will be will be but if you really want to be sure then I'd nip to your Vets in the morning :)
Hi stacey, what breed is she. Has she been seen by a vet, if not may be you should have her cheeked today to make sure all is well, and to make sure that she she is in pup and not having phantom,as even i have been caught out with one of my bitches who put on a lot of wieght and had milk, showed signs of being in labour but there were no pups there, and i know how guted i was at the time. My breed generally have puppies at least two days early, so if your bitch is preganant and gone over her dates then you should get her checked out. warm regards debbie

yeah it could be phantom but if your can feel puppy movement then its not and i think in your other post you said you could feel them so it wouldnt be a phantom if that was the case
i know i must sound really dim saying i could feel movement and not being sure if shes pregnant as i know what wind feels like but im just feeling a little deflated at the moment with family saying she isnt sounds daft doesnt it thanxs again everyone i will keep you posted either way

the difference between gas and puppy movement is alot at this point, there is just the slight taps that you feel but there should also be full body movements towards the side. Wait till she is completely at rest and just lightly place your hand on her side and see if you can feel a stroing movement.
The way i like to descride it is almost as if something a little larger than a golf ball rolling up under the skin
thanks for both replys i didnt think you were suppose to say what breed of dog you had but seen as youve asked she is a jackrussel terrier and very sweet and pretty she only stands ten inches from the shoulder i also borrowed a stetherscope from someone and heard 2 heartbeats you probably think i should know and have enough to go by, but i just want her to have them and to see them. if it turns out that she isnt i will be so upset and go through the greiving process for nothing that was there and how will my baby be bless her. i just hope i send a message saying that shes had them
Good luck to you, hope all gos well keep us all up dated, and have a very merry christmas

warm regards debbie night night.
hi everyone i said i would keep you all posted i took my little girl to the vets today, the vet said she has had a phantom pregnancy i felt i could have cryed when he told me, i feel so deflated i planned the pregnancy fed her good food wormed her correctly got a whelping kit ect then nothing yet you get other people who have a dog who gets out arnt bothered the dog has a healthy pregnancy and a good birth withplenty of live young no complications. theyve not been wormed ect and dont care who has the pups it isnt fair.my xmas isnt going to be as good now this has happened. but what also bothers me is i hope she doesnt go into labour and get upset cause there is nothing there

Snap I amted my girl after her last championship sjhow made no entries for teh early new year as fromn ehr behaviour I was convinced she wqas in whelp (3 good matings with the dog staying with us)m yet no puppies.
I will try again, but it sure upsets all my plans for her showing for 2006, but if I wait a year she may miss again and the dog may be too old :(

so sorry to hear your news. We had a similar episode last christmas, found out 2 days before x mas that it was a false pregnancy. i ended up paying for an x ray because i was so convinced she was pregnant! she didnt go into labour but started gathering toys and curling round them for about 3 weeks. she didnt spend all her time there but quite a lot. then she went back to normal. Good news is she then had 8 pups at next season and was a brilliant mum!
Dont be too upset- she will probably take next time
thanx for replying so quick as at the moment i havnt really anyone to talk to and i will get on my husbands nerves soon if i keep on about it so im just quiet an dboring i tell myself it wasnt meant to be but it doesnt really make me feel any better. well she should be due a season next march so fingers crossed

Ho0w frequent are her seasons if they are too close together she may not be ovulating. Seasons closer together than about 4 months are often associated with infertility. Several of my bitches started off with frequent seasons, but have never been mated until they ahd a more normal interval over 6 months.
her first proper season was in october at 2yrs and 2months she had symptoms of a season slight swelling ect but no blood, but this season was a real one so im expecting her to have aseason around march time
Hi stacey,so sorry shes missed, like i said ive been there and convinced every one she was pregnant and did i feel silly when she wasent. Try again good luck for march, ive just mated one of my girls a week ago now i will play waiting game god bless, and try and enjoy christmas. Regards debbie.
