Hi Todd...To show a dog at a Kennel Club licenced event..ie: Open Shows, Limited Shows and Championship Shows the first thing you need is a dog who is registered with them and transferred into your name. Without that registration you are limited to Exemption Shows and Fun Shows . I'll take it that your Jack is registered ok?...Ringcraft classes are a great way to learn and for your dog to learn to socialise without it turning into a brawl!...A registered pedigree dog can be shown at 6 months...But don't be in a rush...You've a lot of years ahead hopefully..lol...
Exemption Shows are a good way to start, they are advertised in local papers or in one of the specialist dog papers...OUR DOGS or DOG WORLD. The entry fee is taken on the day, usually about £1 a class...Choose the puppy class.(6 to 12 months) if appropriate or the Sporting class. A good slip lead is needed or a half choke (thats a collar made half as leather and half as fine chain that will close around the neck when you pull the lead...Several reasons, but one of the best is your dog won't escape !...At exemption shows fun classes are held after the 4 show classes..go in these too...all good experience.
Open shows are advertised in the dog press too...The entries are taken about a month before the event. Apply to the Secretary of the Show for a schedule..all details and rules are in it. Some shows will have PJRT classes.some won't...If there are no PJRT classes then enter Any Variety Not Seperately Classified...AVNSC. Open shows are more formal than Exemption, each breed is judged seperately..and with exceptions usually Dogs and Bitches of the same breed are judged in the same class. The entry fee is around £3 per class.
Championship Shows entry fee is around £18, entries are taken 6 - 8 weeks prior to the event.Dogs and Bitches have seperate classes and sometimes a different judge for each sex...though not usually in PJRTs.
Qualification for Crufts can be achieved throough a win or second place in a breed class..If you're interested, the KC will give you full qualification details on their web site or by request.
So back to the begining...find a Ring craft class...ring dog groomers , pet shops , breeders in your area..and ask!..That's if the excellent folk who browse the boards don't come up with an answer!..Good luck...One show and you'll be hooked!!!

You're welcome Todd...And why not set your sights high?..
My best piece of advice is...enjoy your dog, win or lose he will still think you are the best thing in his whole life!
Good Luck!!

Hiya - I contacted the KC for ringcraft details and they advised me that the nearest was 30 miles away!!! So I went to my vet and asked if he knew of any - Low & behold there are 3 local to me (one in town centre and two in surrounding villages) and are run by qualified handlers with show experience, so my advise would be to start with your vet - They are a mine of information :D
Best of luck in the showring! :)
