Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or experience of the following. My bitch (health tested etc etc) is now on day 15 of her season (having come in almost two months late when she is normally bang on). She would usually have a "funny" day on day 11 when she ovulates and has a characteristic behavioural change. This time it happened on day 12/13. She was taken to my chosen stud on day 12, 13 and last night. Last night she was definitely more of a tease, but certainly not up for anything, snapping at him. He is a real gentleman and won't serve unless the bitch is 110% ready. I'm going back tonight to see, but i was wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom. She missed on her last season, and I don't plan to try her again (on a subsequent season) as we have a heavy competition season planned for the end of next year so its going to be a disappointment for both myself (and the stud dog owner who is keen to see the litter!). I would be really grateful for any advice - I've never had any success with such a late mating so I'm starting to get a bit dispondant that she just isn't on for it - and while I know that sometimes they know things we don't - I have a sneaking suspiscion that she would be quite happy with the mangy three legged "suitor" that is appearing in the garden just now!!!!
Many thanks in anticipation

If she didn't ovulate until say day 13 then she won't have fertilizable egs until day 15 and they will still be viable until day 17, so you may stil have luck for the next day or so.
If she is still coy and the dog not yet eager she is just later than usual this time.
Thanks Brainless - the rational part of me knows what you have said was true! its a classic case of just wanting something too much and of course i never thought i'd be driving halfway across the country everyday in the week before christmas! Shopping will just have to wait until the 24th!! I guess having animals makes you pretty pragmatic; but I love this stud dog and he suits my girl perfectly ( I think!).
Fingers crossed anyway.........
Wish me luck!

Hi chappydog
My bitch usually stands at day 12 or 13, but last time, when just like yours she was 2 months late coming into season , she didn't stand until day 17. Mated day 17 and 18 and we had 8 pups. Good luck.
I've mated my Spanish on days 18, 19 and 20 and resulted with pups. Have to say I was getting extremely worried but the male certainly knew when it was the right time and so did my girls :d

Is she a maiden? My dog was presented with a maiden bitch and she wouldn't let him near despite all signs she was ready. She teased very well!
Eventually her owner held her head securely and once the initial bit was done, she relaxed with the result being 5 pups!
thanks for all the info guys - feeling a little bit more optimistic...
She isn't a maiden in that she was mated previously (without a proper tie however), but missed. I'm hoping this time she is just late in everything. I guess tonight i will just see how things go.
thanks again!
