So to pass some time, I looked on the KC website, got checking through the puppies for sale bit, and found that there are 227, (yes two hundred and twenty seven) litters of Labradors advertised at the moment.:eek::eek:

Thats alot of puppies!!

Thank goodness I'm not in Labradors.

MMMmmmm and how many will end up in rescue :mad::mad:
Are many of them ready for Christmas ?

I don't know about that, but I did notice that there were several breeders names that occurred many times over.

Sadly that is the case with these poor sods. There is never that kind of demand for them. Ask Glenys from LNW how bad it is at this time of the year.

Sadly not only Glenys, all the Lab rescues see the unwanted , unprepared owners rejections going through rescue :mad:

Totally agree Luc:mad:

There is a breeder that has registered 7 separate litters over a 7 week period amounting to 50 individual puppies. That's £20,000 give or take. These people are accredited breeders apparently, and yet they are saying that one litter in particular will be ready on 19th of Dec.

Words fail you sometimes don't they?

seeing as it is a bored thread :-)

What changes do you think " we" could do in the UK to prevent these things happening.

My first thought is  and see what you think about it
,

1)like in the cat world you have to have a secretary signature on your affix application
2) and to get a secretary sig you need to be a member of a breed club for at least a year.

,
3)The kennel club should only register litters from affix holders. if the above was in place you could eliminate not all PF but quite a few.

I think it shouldn't matter who you are and how successful you are there should be a max amount of litters per year.

Now you may say well people will still breed BUT oer a period of time people would know this rule and hopefully with education only by from KC registered litters.

The thing I find particularly troubling is that as I have labs & aussies and am on some lists as a "breeder" - although my last lab litter was 8 years ago, & my last aussie litter 3 years ago - we might have either an aussie litter or lab litter in the next year - depending upon who comes into season & which stud is suitable - maybe neither.

Yet every week I get emails from people asking for labs - I explain - dah dah dah dah..... - tell them to contact breed society, etc, go to shows to see what sort of labs they like, yet I still get people asking to go on my "list" and what deposit do I take:eek:

When I say that (1) before I would even contemplate putting someone on a non-existing list I would expect to reply to a questionnaire at the very least and (2) I would need references rather than a deposit; some people get very very upset & one person was downright rude!

That sort of thing worries me - labs aren't as easy as people think - yet there must be hundreds of people out there who think otherwise!

Unfortunately there is a perception in non dog owning GP that Labs are easy-going and an easy breed to own.  They just don't seem to understand that easy going and good natured isn't the same as easy to own and train :(

I had a Lab pup registered on my latest puppy class. They failed to turn up to the first class, so I phoned and left a message saying I hoped everything was OK - no reply.  At the start of the second class still 'no show' so I phoned again, this time I got an answer and was told the pup was now living with somebody in Luton (not a million miles away) so now would not be coming - and these people had paid good money for the course!

If I remember, you referred to a commercial site ... could be wrong though.

Just checked and there are currently 220 litters, however, about 169 of them are dating from June through to October of this year so probably not available litters right now :)   51 litters have become available from November onwards - wish people would remember to update their adverts and remove ones for litters now sold, it makes life so much easier for website administrators and potential new puppy owners
