Topic Dog Boards / Health / Swelling following spay

Paris was spayed on Tuesday and had her post op check on Thursday when the vet checked her. He said there was some bruising but that was to be expected.

Last night while Paris was sitting I noticed her tummy was swollen in the general area of the op.  Is this normal?

Other than the swelling the scar looks ok, there is no redness anywhere and she is performing all the usual bodily functions.  In fact my biggest problem with her behaviour is that she is so lively I am shouting every time she jumps about.

Would appreciate the benefit of people's experience as my gut feeling is that everything is ok and this is probably normal

Hi Cheryls, maddie was done last week and about 5 days later I noticed swelling around the 'op' area, took her to the vets and he drained it, watery blood it looked like. But she was ok after that though the swelling didn't look like it had gone down for about 3 more days but she had the stitches out and no more drainage :) and it is fine now.
