Hiya everyone just out of interest how much do you spend on ur doggy friends in a month??? with food, toys, insurance and other bits and bobs?? (bit board at work and trying to work it out!) also come come in handy shoul another doggy friend be added to the family ....

Thanks :D

Haven't got a clue. Pet insurance is about £12 per month but this can vary between companies. I buy a big bag of food that costs about £35 and as it gets close to emptying I buy another but I haven't worked out how many weeks it lasts.
If you already have a dog though, can't you just double your current costs to get an idea?
YES AND I WILL I WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT OTHERE PEOPLE AND DIFFERENT DOGS AND DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY ?? (oops didnt mean to have caps on ) :D
We are £173.96 but there are 12 little 'un's
what type of little uns do you have??
Miniature long & miniature wirehaired dachshunds
ohhh i love miniature smooth daschshunds!!! my friend has one, she would love another but is finding it hard to find them in her area! especially a bitch . :)
For 2 terriers:
Training: 60.00 (once per week x 2 dogs)
Food: 40.00
Insurance: 18.00
Toys: Unlimited!!!!
Not to mention kenneling fees of 28.00 per night when I happen to go out!!! LOL
my terrier costs me
insurance- £8
food- £7.50
vets- £3 average- worming & fleaing
= £18.50 a month ish....

Not a lot really, unless somebody is ill which is rare -the cats are costing me millions times more than the dogs....

We have 9 dogs (7 large, 2 small) and I'd say for food we pay around £25 a month, medication (one dog only) £20, and then training twice a week total £24. I don't have insurance as I've got too many animals for it to make sense. Toys -well basically I never buy any, I win them in dog club's raffle each week :D. But then of course we have
shows. And that varies. Say roughly 2 open shows and one champ.show a month equals approximately £60 for 2 dogs inc. catalogues not incuding petrol. (But then again there will be months without champ.shows too. For instance my next one won't be until Crufts as I tend to only go to ones with breed classes for us, with just 2 exceptions.) Now I
really don't want to have to think of the petrol costs.....
>>Now I really don't want to have to think of the petrol costs.....
Ermm..yes, don't even go there! Shows are my one really big expense as far as the dogs are concerned but not so much at this time of year. Over the winter we will probably do one open show a week, which cost me about £10 depending on who I take, like Marianne I won't be at a champ show til Crufts now so that should keep the cost down a bit! Summer is a different story, this one just gone was my first one where I did the vast majority of the shows, which involved a huge amount of driving, and also some camping(aka my holidays!)..I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at the amount I spend! Ringcraft costs me a few pounds a week, no other training apart from that...but do want to do the GCDS with at least 2 of them so that might cost me :D
On food we spent maybe £30 a month, the dogs are on two different foods, same make so £60 every 4/5 weeks....but don't take my word on that one!! We only have Chloe insured now, and will probably stop that next renewal, we just put money away which could be spent should anything happen. They are all wormed every 3 months, about £15 for all of them and boosters at £30 a year....but I'm researching that at the moment as Kayla had a funny turn when she had hers last time so we'll see!
Very little on toys because they just get very silly with them and they don't last 5 minutes, a cardboard box is cheaper and more fun!
Of course, they are well worth all the dosh we plough into them.....or thats what they'd have us believe!!
the £10 insurance a month per dog
food about easily £70 a month
toys to much probs about £30 a month
treats £10ish a month
training £12 a month per dog sometimes more
other stuff ill allow at least £30
about £280 varys though.

Cats, 2 of them too! 'bout the same as the wee chaps, then I wonder why I'm ALWAYS skint!!! LOL

well this is actually in aus dollars but if you do the currency exchange on most items the difference in price isnt all that great but here goes
dog insurance $30.00 a month
food $35.00 a week so $140.00 a month and thats when she doesnt have pups who also need to be fed
worm tablets $4.00
steer bone and other treats approx $30.00
doggy bath soap $33.00 for a small bottle a bit rude but its the only one that doesnt interfere with the advantage flea treatment
advantage $35.00 for 3 month supply so around about $10.00 a month
and she is an australian red cattle so total would be $263
but i also ad money to my bank account every week usually around $50 for the unforseen costs that tend to be pretty expensive
wit th currency conversion using the www.xe.com currency converter
110.36 gbp
i think my dog is a little spoiled
and thats not including the moeny i put aside

Newfiedreams do you really pay £10 per WEEK for insurance? It sounds to me like you've got 4 dogs so if you really do pay that amount that totals £160 per month in insurance premiums. Wouldn't you be better off putting the money into a savings account to cover illness and costs?
Have you spoken to an insurance broker to help you find a more suitable policy?
Thats an unbelievable amount to be handing over to an insurance company.

Jackykat...check out any Insurance broker for Giant dogs the fees are DOUBLE!! It's due to the size and increase costs of drugs etc Most fees are between £12 to £16 per dog per month! So £10 a week for their Inusrance is not excessive! HONEST! I pay £12 a month for the Yorkies (EACH) so I don't know what else I can do?? Storm is on Dog Breeders Ins..£15 a month but cr*p at pay out time...took me 4 months to get £400 for an injury last year. That £10 a week was for them both...altogether the Insurance for all four totals £64 so not as bad huh? I obviously didn't clarify it well...sorry! But I'm still SKINT! LOL

My Newfie costs £10.65 per
month to insure. My big crossbreed (Chow X Rottie) costs just £7.95. Both with M&S.

ShaynLola, I'm going to check it out RIGHT NOW!! Thanks for that! All the best, Dawn X

Hi
Well for my 2 Shar Pei I pay:
food - nature diet or natures menu at the moment - about £16.00 per week
Treats - who knows
Training class - £6.00 per week for 2 classes
Insurance - Bailey £35.00 per month, Dutch £19.95 (believe me they could charge me £50 per week and would never get back what Bailey has cost in ears!
Wormers etc - dunno
Dog walker - £200 per month!!!!!! Although we have stopped this now as hubby changed his hours and now I am on maternity leave the boys have me home all day.

My dogs have cost me £2,500 this year, that includes show entry fees and contribution to petrol. That is 5 1/4 medium size dogs, of which 3 1/4 will have been shown. I don't Insure, and did not have a heavy year Vet wise, with only the cost of putting my oldest to sleep.
3 collies cost me per month...
£25 in food
£21 in insurance for the 2 younger ones
£36 in agility training
£12 for flyball, although that's the maximum as we don't always do it
£10 misc. for odds and ends
Total: £107
Don't buy toys generally and they aren't allowed treats as such, they tend to have raw carrots which I get for free. That works out at approx. £35 per dog, per month, which isn't bad. :)
I don't count shows in the dog budget as they are an optional extra and are mainly for my benefit, not the dogs. However, they are approx. £9 in entry fees and £15 in diesel. I usually do 2 or 3 shows a month. In the New Year I intend to join another agility club so that will be an extra £12 a month. :p My dogs will never go into kennels either.
I don't go out that much, don't smoke, don't drink very often or go abroad on holiday and some of my friends spend more on those things in a month than I do on my dogs in a year.
So although I spend quite a bit on them, as the Mastercard advert says, 'the love and devotion of a dog, or 3, priceless'

Umm - one mutt and one Aussie:
Food - about £20 ish (would be cheaper but they have expensive tastes in mixer :D )
Insurance - £40
Agility/training (only for one dog at the moment) - £22 + 160 miles petrol
Bits and pieces (bones, worming etc) - say £10
Boarding (if we go away) - say £10 per month (or £20 per day for the two)
Oops - forgot boosters/annual MOT - £4 per month
Certainly cheaper than children :D
Daisy
it costs about £60-£70 a mth for my two. Except if there's a trip to the vets....if its their birthday etc.

£76 mixer & Tripe (would be cheaper if i could get landywoods)
£22 insurance (sainsburys)
£98 total
Thats shocked me i thought it would be more! Thats just the basics tho and doesn't include petrol driving them to the beach, shows, treats etc etc.

Food
£10.00 per week for the pup, £15 per week for the elder two
= £110.00 (will be cheaper when I find a regular supplier for BARF again :( )
Training class - £5.00 per week for obedience
Ringcraft: £5.00 per week
Approx £40.00 per month for both
Insurance:
£80.00 per month
Other costs:
Wormer every 3 month, Frontline every so often (normally when going camping etc - use garlic otherwise)
Total: £230 not including other costs, rally/show entries and petrol

One Tibetan Mastiff
Food:
Bag of Superdog sensitive lasts him about 6 weeks, so that's about £12 a month.
Treats/extras
Can vary in what I purchase "dried tripe, chicken wings, gravy bones etc...), but no more than £8.00 a month
Insurance:
£10.00 per month
That's about £30 a month or £7.50 a week. When I still had my little old shar-pei, it only cost about £10 a week for the pair of them. She didn't eat as much and it was not economically viable to insure her. TM gets spoiled as I don't ration the treats as carefully now! I did have a contingency fund for her instead of insurance, which I used to add about £10 a month to, but to be honest, I rarely dipped into it, so I came out ahead on that when she sadly had to be pts a couple of weeks back.

I'm ashamed to admit that I don't normally add it up! But insurance is £117 a year and food about £15 a week (I home cook as well as using Burns). I suppose I ought to add about £10 a week in petrol because I choose to go to interesting places for walks as well as in the fields behind the house.
I'm another one who doesn't buy toys though since with the exception of a couple of favourites - the squeaky pussy and raggy - he gets as much pleasure from things like ice cubes to chase around the kitchen, the inside of kitchen rolls and the paper he thinks he's been really wicked and stolen from the wastebin in my office!

Food - £10 per month (Burns works out cheap :D) not bad for 2 beddies
Not insured but £10 saved every month - it's quite a sum now :D
Treats - about 99p
toys - rarely buy any - they have DURABLE toys :D :D
Shows - not going to even think about it, don't go often but the petrol .....

The darned cat costs more to feed

i reckon over a year its £1000 for a gsd, and thats everything including kennels, worth every penny, but i cant afford another!!. I was interested to see that there is always cheaper insurance out there but you need to be happy with the cover I guess.
Have you looked at M&S Pet Insurance?? We are getting a GSD pup on friday and we got quoted £10 a month with no excess and thats up to £7000 vet fees. All looks really good tbh, had them recommended by someone else and heard they were cheap aswell.

Hi OurObie :)
Lots of people on here favour M&S for insurance. Both my dogs are insured with them although, thankfully, I haven't had to make a claim yet :)
