We have recently got a golden retriever puppy from a rehoming centre who is about 14 weeks old. We know he is a pedigree puppy as the rehoming centre was offered his papers by the then owner but didn't take them as they didnt want him being fostered just because he was a pedigree puppy. We would be interested to know what his parentage is to know about any health issues with hips, eyes etc.
He was originally sold to people in Thanet Kent and is believed to have been born on or around August 29th 2005. He has a very light coat and a gentle temperament.
If anyone thinks they may have bred him I would love to hear from you. He is a family pet and, in line with the Dogs Trust rules , will be neutered in April so our interest in his pedigree is purely for information.
Thank you. Liz

It might be worth contacting Hilary Male, who holds the puppy list for the Southern Golden Retriever Society.  Her email address is hilary_male@hotmail.com.

Good luck, and enjoy your puppy!

Thank you for your reply I will e-mail her tonight and ask if she is able to help. As I understand it the previous owners didn't ask the breeder to take the puppy back and just contacted the Dogs Trust .We certainly are enjoying our puppy and appreciate how lucky we are to have such a wonderful new addition to our family - their loss is our gain.

Good luck with Hilary - let us know how you get on.  If I'd bred the pup I'd be really upset that the owners hadn't contacted me about rehoming.  Looks like things turned out well for the pup though - thank goodness for that!

So far we haven't had any luck but I am still trying. One owner told me about an amazing bit of tracing that she managed - she got a springer spaniel from a rescue centre and traced its breeder all the way back to Australia! So there is hope for us if we persevere.

I wonder what their policy is on that? I know that The Jerry Green Foundation actually contacted my friend when one of her puppies was handed in without the owner contacting her (she ALWAYS takes her puppies back at any age and she was fuming when she found out). I know not all breeders are as bothered and I get the feeling some rescue centres don't think pedigree dogs are politically correct and won't even co-operate with breed rescues. It was a happy ending for that pup anyway as I adopted her.
