I have 12 day old pups and today they have had runny poo. Mum has cleaned up after the pups fine so far but in the last 24hrs the pups are pooing without stimulation [which is about age appropriate from what i've read] & when this happens shes not bin so interested in cleaning it up unless she stimulates them into pooing herself.  Shes also spending less time in the whelping box with them & seems to only be doing the minimum required, [altho she is still very interested in the pups and runs to them when they cry.] Thus meaning that today i have been very busy cleaning the box every time one of them poos. I dont mind this but its the runnyness of the poo thats bothering me. Cud this be the reason that shes not cleaning it up,?  or cud there be a problem ??
I've kept a close eye on mum and pups all day and nothing has changed in their behaviours their all eating fine including mum, and  the puppies are not crying or anything like that.

Could there be a simple explanation for the runny poo? or is it normal ?  or shud i be contacting my vet first thing ?

thanks for reading /  replying.

Regards Mabs

Hi it dos sound normal, if they are feeding well and there poo is yellow in colour they should be fine . but if your bitch dosent clean them up you will have to do it, so get your self some baby wipes in,one for my girls would only clean the wee wee up and not clean the poo away. Good luck regards debbie.

Yeah the poo is yellow in colour. And she does seem to prefere their 'wee' to their 'poo' !!   lol
thanks for replying debsspaniel. cheers.
