i am a little annoyed with why some breeders will smoke near their bitches pups but not their own children i am a smoker and i would never dare smoke near my pups why doesnt the same apply for dogs i have alot of breeder friends where i live and i was on the phone to one today when she was giving her first solids to her pups and i was mortified to hear her light a ciggerette whilst trying to get them to eat no wonder the poor babies wouldnt eat with the smoke around pups are just as fragile as a child and i think the same rules should apply to pups as well as children
I also smoke, but not around my children or dog :-)
I took my daughter to the doctors the other week because she suffers with glue ear......he asked if anyone smokes in the household, so i told him yes but i said not round the kids, and he said it doesn't matter if i smoke outside it will still affect them, i don't understand why....but i'm trying to quit (again) :-D

maybe we can start a support thread on FOO Lou??? (New years resolution!!)
I too am giving up HATE it as much as I love it.
I smoke outside, tho now its getting chilly, wet miserable out I have comandeered one of our old outbuildings as my smoking den.. (bit like being at school again sneaking off!!) ;)

Justlou i presume because the smoke stays on your clothes/breath/body etc.
The breeder sounds like a hell of a woman i couldnt talk on a phone, feed pups and smoke at the same time easily. :D :D

she wasnt really trying hard to get the pups to eat she was just sitting next to them and put the food down to watch them so they dont choke i do the same thing but i wont smoke near them if my bitch is out the back with me while i am smoking she wont come near me she doesnt like it i just feel it is just as bad if you do it near a pup or a child i once new a person who lived in a caravan and they had a cat they used to chain smoke in that thing you would walk in and could barely breath and that cat ended up with respitory problems when it wuld sleep because it wasnt breathing as hard as when it was aleep it would make this weezy sound it was so disturbing the cat was supposedly not in any pain but it probably wouldnt have gotten it if she hadnt been subjected to so much ciggerette smoke
I never thought of it like that Mygirl :-)
Yes we should start a thread after new year and everytime we fancy a cigarette....we could type instead :-D Imagine how many pages we'd fill :-D :-D

I have to confess I am the WORSE ex-smoker I know!! I hated doing it when I was, always outside, couldn't stand the smell!! LOL Never smoked around my kids, dogs or pups...it has the same effect on all of them. I just decided one day that I hated being a slave to something I HATED!! went cold turkey and gave it up...best thing I ever did...except now I'm terrible...go to Shows where I mutter and grumble if people smoke near me! Waste of time complaining as most of those doing it are on the committee!!! They even smoke in the Sports Halls used at Open shows, where there are distinct NO SMOKING signs....sighs and runs back under the covers...Dawn X :D :D :D

newfiedreams, we have a friend like you - lol. She is in her fifties, been smoking since her teens and gave up about 3/4 months ago. She was always quite considerate around the rest of us non/ex-smokers, leaving the room or smoking outside but now she is something else altogether. She won't even go into some of the pubs we used to frequent because they are too smokey!
Seriously though, for those who smoke, you don't realise how much the smell clings to your clothes, skin and hair until you stop. When my daughter started having crafty fags before coming home we could smell it on her as soon as she opened the door, no exaggeration.
my mum was a smoker, she proberbly smoked around 20/40 a day for about 20years. she had a massive stoke at 46,left her paralized & unabel to see or speak :( .luckily after a wile or so & months of phisiotherapy & speach therapy her sight returned her speach improved & she learnt to walk again.
shes 52 now and you would never tell apart from her left side is still quite stiff and weak, & she can be quite emotional.
shes never smoked another cigarette since then :)
so good luck giving up ! :)
just had to share

I too am a smoker but smoking is banned in my house.
I wouldn't smoke near my children so I wouldn't smoke near my pups when they were here :)
