my dog is a small westie cross yorkie but takes more after the yorkie in size and appearance. he went to the vets last friday for his annual booster, he has been fine up until now,but this morning does not seem his self, he looks really sorry for his self and continusly shivering. He is not responding to our calls and is just sitting in his bed .do you think it could be any thing to do with the injection bearing in mind that was 6 days ago.or do you think it could be some thing like a cold or a chill as it was raining that day so when he got back he had a bath.he is eating and drinking fine.i would welcome any advice on this as he is normally such a happy and healthy little dog
I would take him straight ot the vet - I made the mistake recently of thinking my dog was behaving differently because she was depressed about leaving anoher dog she had made close friend's with at my partner's mums, and in fact she is a virus, which turned nasty. She is fine now, but I wish I had taken her to the vet sooner, as it woulkd have meant she wouldn;t have been ill for so long. I think for your own peace of mind, go to the vets and get your dog checked out. It may cost you, but it will be worth it to check out the possibilities for this change in behaviour.
Best wishes x

I second this advice. If your dog is acting out of character and you are obviously concerned, then the Vet is the best place to take him ;)
Good luck :)
hi i would just like to thank you both for replying to my message, i have took your advice and i have an appointment at the vets at 2.20 lets just hope that everything is ok
thank you both again
Hey, let us know what the vet ssays. I am sure it might be something very simple, but it is always best to check rather than sit and worry yourself about the possibilities, and also, if it is something, the earlier it is dealt with the better it will be. Best wishes x
hi just got back from the vets with sam they gave him a good examination and the outcome is they dont think that it is anything to serious, the vet said that he has a slight temperture so could have an infection they gave us some tablets called cephalexin which i have to give sam 1/2 three times a day and also some tablets called carprofen tablets which i have to give 1/2 twice a day. i have to take him back on saturday at 9.20 with a urine sample.
thanks for your concern
keep you informed on the outcome saturday
Good luck :-) I'm sure Sam will be fine.
Keep us posted xx
sam is back to his normal happy self , running about after his toys ect. we took him back to the vets on saturday as arranged . the vet checked his temperature again and it is back to normal, vet said it was proberly an infection, but to finish the course of tablets. glad the worry is over.thank u all for the advice it was appreciated

Well i think you went to the vets for your booster and brought a bug back home with you.
hi bowers
yes i think you are right, because sam was fine before he went to the vets for his booster !!!!
Hi Lynn - glad to hear that Sam is a lot better. My guess would be that the booster may have been a contributory factor, although vets are usually very reluctant to suggest this. Every booster challenges the immune system so if he was just slightly under the weather beforehand, the vaccination would have been a bit too much for him to cope with.
