On Friday I went out to pick up a dog which was no longer wanted, a 4 month old Yorkshire Terrier puppy. With him came all of the papers from the above named establishment, along with the receipt which I could only read in disbelief. The cost of the puppy was £350 (with his Dog Lovers Registration Certificate), then there was an additional charge of £25 with no explanation I thought until I noticed at the bottom of the receipt C.O.D. Well there we go ... lets not order a pizza tonight, but a puppy which will be delivered to your door!! I knew things were bad, but this bad!!!

PS Puppy has since been happily rehomed to a volunteer with Springer Welfare.

Hi Caitlin, That is disgusting, and almost unbelievable that anyone, however dense and moronic, could order a pup as a take away. A big well done to you for getting the poor little pup into your care.

Nothing surprises me these day:( what next mail order babies???
- By Brainless [gb] Date 14.07.02 14:35 UTC
This is exactly the symptom. those who want a pup quick often want rid quick tyoo, which is why good breeders refuse such people a pup!

The customer gets what they want, and then the rescue workers end up picking up the pieces!

How about if every breeder were responsible for rehoming any dog up to a year5 old by law!

Did anyone approach the Store for a donation to resue?????

Having the breeder responsible for rehoming dogs they've bred up to 5 years 9or life long0 would be good, but hard to enforce. I'd also like to see each and every breed club really enforcing their codes of ethics. That would be easier, and while some breed clubs may well be very strict about codes of ethics, some make it hard for people to get in ... but never throw anyone out. OK I imagine that most of the people breeding for wholesalers are not breed club memebers, but I'm sure between us we can think of a few folks who are and have some good dogs that win well, but who also churn out rather a lot of puppies ....

Hi Caitlin
I really don't believe that this is happening! I mean, I know it is but I can't accept it.
Thank goodness you stepped in.
This has made me feel sick. I wonder if there is anything that could be done to put a stop to it legally? Are any of our posters up on trading laws?

Hi,
why did they not want the puppy anymore,is there nothing that can be done to stop this disgusting place from trading in animals.Maybe we should all stand outside the place and have a protest.

Lowri.

The man who gave up the puppy ... and who clearly had no money (or dressed and lived in a house which suggested he had none!!) said he got the dog after losing his own YT, but then his own turned up again and so he didn't want another!! I have to say he gave me lots of toys and the dogs new bed but on the other hand he simply dumped the pup in my arms and turned round and walked back in. It aghasts me .. If I lost £375 in a couple of weeks I would be gutted and broke .. yet he simply handed that sum over to me without a backwards glance.

Incidentally the pup in his new home is supposed to be "fantastic". :)

I don't know what can be done ... here locally (Warrington) when our local paper started running an advert for this outlet, a number of us wrote in and complained and the newspaper withdrew the advert, but so many wont :(

Oh well ... keep fighting the fight I guess ... one day we might win (she said ever hopefully)

The adverts for this place regularly appear in the MEN's freebie paper, The Metro. I have written to them twice to ask them not to run the ads, but they're still there.

One paper said to me I could pay for an advert advising purchasers of puppies only to buy from reputable dealers and one where they could see puppies and mother. I think NCDL run such adverts ... but who would fund them?
- By Jo C [de] Date 15.07.02 14:16 UTC
I work as a fundraiser, if you want to, please email me and I'll see if I can find any potential funders to run ads like that.

Our local papers have that warning at the top of each 'pets' section. No one pays - it's a good-will thing.

Thanks everyone ... will do a scout around local papers in area and see which ones run it ... then try contacting them with the same information. Never thought about that with Loot Mattie, never buy the paper so I don't know what to do .. this might help a little. Will investigate and come back to you all.

loot number is 0161 832 0088 you may have to send a letter head in but I have already registered so I can ring it through if you want also I will happily contribute to other ads if you wish and could get other rescue to contribute if it gets the message accross it will be well worth it
