Just wondergin if anyone else hereabouts does this?

I've just started teaching my two the basics, and they are picking it up at lightning speed :D I think we may have found our furry groove in life!!

I love doing these tricks with one of my beardies we only do it for fun so far she can... walk through my legs in a weave while I'm walking then into a reverse ..I walk backwards and she walks the opposite way through my legs... she can twist and twirl... play dead..reverse through my legs as I walk forwards known as the verse I walk towards her and say
" back " and she keeps walking back until I stop our latest one is walking backwards to heel  its quite difficult we do it against a wall so she keeps inastraight line......she gets really excited and barks her way through it ....its great fun of course she knows the sausages are on offer!!!!

what tricks have you learned???

Roni

flynn can twist & bow(& twist a bow together) & weave thru my legs & run thru my legs forward, thats it it took him TWO years to give me paw!!!!
- By Nikita [gb] Date 06.12.05 18:51 UTC
wicked :D

So far Remy can walk backwards to heel, walk back away from me - only a few steps, we're working on that - weave through my legs for a couple steps, spin both directions, circle round me, almost circle me while I spin, take a bow, put his paws on my thighs or chest, and appear through my legs from behind me and look up (cutely called "peekaboo" :) ), and bounce into heel position (on both sides, almost!)!
Opi can roll over and stand on her hind legs too, and play dead - she's obsessed with trying to peekaboo, when I ask her to Fuss (left heel position) she keeps nudging at my legs to make me move them so she can do it, silly animal :D

Loads still to learn and it's great fun :) Dad lent me the vid camera today so I can film our sessions and see where I'm fluffnig up as well!

well done! i do obedience so scared to do too much (not that its done Mary ray any harm...but im not her ;) )
- By michelled [gb] Date 06.12.05 18:55 UTC
are you using a clicker btw? i have clicker-lyxia (find it really hard going) what breed have you got?
- By Nikita [gb] Date 06.12.05 18:58 UTC
I clicker train everything, yep :) love it!  Remy is a dobermann, and Opi is a rotti X GSD.  I did want to do obedience with remy when he was a youngster, but I've gone off it - it's just too restrictive to me, too precise, I like having my dogs leaping around like loons in an, ahem!, controlled fashion :D
- By guiness [gb] Date 06.12.05 19:02 UTC
My dogs must have 4 left feet. :) They have trouble even walking to heal let alone dancing to music.I do think its great though to watch.Highlight of Crufts for me,well, that and flyball and agility. :)
- By michelled [gb] Date 06.12.05 19:05 UTC
lol my dog DOES leap about in obedience its meant to be called "style" sometimes its called "attitude"

have you tryed using a target stick,?that way you can get props into your routine
- By guiness [gb] Date 06.12.05 19:14 UTC
Oh,we have props alright..............falling over legs, bumpimg into each other and me and running into inanimate objects. But who cares anyway, they are still my babies. :)
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 07.12.05 17:44 UTC
I like practising the moves, but am too scared to put it into a dance.
Meg can: walk backwards, turn in front of me and back through my legs, go round my legs, walk backwards to heel, rewind - which means going backwards round my legs, rollover, rollever at heel whilst i step over her, give a paw, twist and spin (differnt directions, jump through my arms, weave through my legs, whilst moving backwards and forwards and bow. (hmm, didn't realise she could do so much!)
Ellie can do the weaving through legs, rollover, walk backwards, wave, walk on her back legs, beg and wave, twist/spin and jump off the ground on command.
Murphy, well, he's still very much a work in progress!!
- By michelled [gb] Date 07.12.05 18:24 UTC
well done thats brillliant, have you ever tryed music? put a cd on & dance about abit (not doing any prpoer moves) the dog will try to join in,then you can put a few moves to it......go on.......

Has anyone found any good tips for traiig HTM or any good books/video's (wasn't keen on Mary ray's obedience videos so not sure about her HTM ones?)  Would like to maybe give our new puppy a go.  I've already been given the go ahead to give her basic obedience training (although never compete love the training part)
- By michelled [gb] Date 07.12.05 19:26 UTC
whats wrong with Marys????? :O
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 07.12.05 20:56 UTC
Actually i found her HTM ones quite good, breaking it down into little movements, very good if you do clicker. I found the attila vids quite hard going, but is a completely differnt style, but there are masses of differnt positions and not as much on the movements. I've yet to try one of the richard curtis ones, i've seen him do a couple of demos (taken part in one too!) and he seems a good teacher. Hoping for that for christmas.
Trouble is you see is that my dogs are good, but i have no rhythm and two left feet. I've got the same problem in agility - my dogs are HANDLERcapped!!
- By Nikita [gb] Date 08.12.05 17:18 UTC
Remy has that problem too - he'd be fab at agility if it wasn't for me :D
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 08.12.05 17:54 UTC
Well Anton bows, spins, goes through my legs, good at giving alternate paws but then get's excited and his paws are everywhere :d  Carina loves bowing, spinning and most things.  The Spanish seem to love this kind of thing especially as it's something that they can do with their favourite thing, their owners :d

Where is the best place to get a list of the moves and how to do them??

can any breed do it or are some more suited than others??

thanks
- By tohme Date 09.12.05 12:58 UTC
Richard Curtis has a book out on HWTM, any breed can participate in HWTM although not ALL are suited to all the moves such as very long backed dogs (in general) light Daxies etc may not be willing or physically capable of prolonged periods of walking on their back legs etc.

Is fun to train the dogs to do different moves and some are great fittening exercises and teach the dog to be more body aware such as walking backwards (on 4 legs).
- By Nico101 [gb] Date 09.12.05 14:18 UTC
Thanks! might ask for it for christmas! dont think rutger will be up to it but certanly for my next pup when ever that will be !!
- By tohme Date 09.12.05 14:34 UTC
Weimaraners should take to it very well, mine did and although your dog is 10 there is no reason you cannot have fun experimenting with easy moves such as spins to the left or right, circling around you, walking backwards, weaving between your legs, bowing etc, and if fact these exercises are great for keeping joints supple and strengthening muscles.  You do not have to actually compete but just enjoy the training and a few party pieces go down a storm!
- By Nico101 [gb] Date 09.12.05 16:49 UTC
i wouldn't compete anyway !

hes very clever and can do that thing where you call them back and he spins round behind me and then heals on the left! (normally when i'm holding his fav treet of liver roasted with garlic on !!)xx
