Topic Dog Boards / Health / Dog being sick after diahrrea
- By Heather P. [gb] Date 08.12.05 14:22 UTC
My dog who has just turned 1 had diahrrea for a few days which then stopped and a few days later he started being sick.  All he brought up the whole time was bile.  This occured regularly in the course of 6 hours and then settled although if he tried to eat anything other than dry biscuits he would bring it up.  This also stopped and the next few times he was sick (once each morning for the next 2 days) he was just bringing up brown liquid and grass.
He now seems too scared to eat in case he is sick again and only comes alive when he goes for a walk with a friends dog or plays with my daughter and friends.
He is having poo's (which aren't much) but they are a dark brown with white bits in which we don't know if could be because he is eating grass all the time.
The last time he was sick, he had eaten dog food and biscuits the night before which must have digested as he then only brought up brown liquid and grass the next morning.
Don't know if it is a passing bug which he is fine from now or if he is still unwell as he seems fine in himself other than fatigue and not wanting to eat.

Hi Heather
I'd have him checked out if I were you. D & V can quickly cause dehydration & other problems as I'm sure you are aware. Obstruction is also a concern.
Hopefully your vet can put your mind at rest & advise on how best to help your dog.
Regards

As this has gone on for several days I would have him off to the vet immediately.   Like bint it is an obstuction I would be most concerned about and that has to be sorted much sooner rather than later or it can be very serious.

Thanks for the advice.  I got him into the vets last night and there was an obstruction.  Although he was fine otherwise, blood, kidneys etc.  they did an X-Ray and found he had swallowed something so they are operating on him this morning after keeping him in and feeding him fluids and pain relief.  Hopefully all will go well and he will be back to his puppy like self in time for Christmas.

Thank you again

Thats a shame I was hoping it wouldn't be.  I'm sure they will get him sorted now, particularly as things don't seem to have progressed too far.  I'm sure he will be bouncing by Christmas, dogs are very resilient :)

wishing him a speedy recovery
