can dogs catch colds  bad thoats from us

No ;)

They can suffer from Kennel cough, this often mimicks the symptoms of a cold and they are generally off colour. This is very contageous to other dogs, so it's important that you keep the affected dog completely isolated.

Are you asking because you think your dog may have these symptoms, of is it just a general question? :)

Yes apparently they can catch bad coughs from us.  I heard a vet online say this and asked another online vet if it was true and my vet and as i still didn't believe it I rang an independant vets surgery and they all said yes.  It will still aparently be known as Kennel cough but depends whether it is the viral strain or bacterial.  It is also possible depending on the strain for us to catch from them too.  Don't ask me which strain is which I am no expert but it seems this is the case.
I had pleurisy and have been coughing terribly and one of my dogs went down with a cough this is how I found out.
