Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 1st season?

Hi, I just wanted to do a poll about what age your bitches usually come in season the first time? The youngest any of mine have ever came in is 8 months. Today one of my boys was sniffing my puppy bitch and went all goofy and then followed her around for an hour or so - as he would if she were coming into season. She's only 4 1/2 months though? I've checked her over, no swelling, no discharge and she's not acting any differently. I'm fairly sure it's just my boy being a twit but wondered what the earliest anyone has ever heard of a bitch coming in? Thanks, Jane :)

My bitch's 1st season was at 7 1/2 months old but dogs were very interested in her from the age of 5 months and we have problems with Males alot of the time between seasons, 2 years on.  :)

Well that was quite an extensive poll then wasn't it...lol :)

Thanks Chocmolly, for some reason some bitches are obviously just more interesting than others then? One of my borzoi boys has decided he's in love with my collie pup, when just last week he hated her. Now he stands there wagging his tail while she leaps up repeatedly and licks/nips his lips...she does get carried away sometimes and try it with his brother which doesn't go down well :)

HI,

my older girl had her first season at nine months my puppy now 12 months same breed still hasnt had a season having spoken to her breeder she said that her mother started late 15m but some dogs can go upto 2 yrs before they have a first season but this is extreme .

My Cavalier bitch came in season 2 weeks short of her 1st birthday. I think the worst is nearly over now, thank goodness! She's still bleeding a little (just short of 3 weeks, so I know it could be another week or so) but it is turning brownish again like it was at the beginning, and the howling and barking from the 2 boys has subsided to whimpering. :-)
