Topic Dog Boards / Health / Shut car boot on dogs head!
- By king of bling Date 05.12.05 20:04 UTC
Hi guys, I have just got back from Pets at Home where I had taken my boxer Bruno to get some doggy christmas presents and when I was shutting the boot of the car I banged the top of his head. He let out an almighty yelp and now his third eyelids (I think) are  inflamed and are closing over half of his eyes. I feel so awful and bloody stupid! Our vets is closed and I don't know whether or not to ring the emergency number as he is happy in him self.I am taking him first thing in the morning. Help, clare

I would get him to a vet now :)

I am sure he will be ok but better to be safe rather than sorry ;)

Let us know what happens

Hi Clare

Ring the emergency number and tell them what has happened and they'll advise whether he needs to be seen or not. I did this late on a Saturday night when I was convinced the pup was bloating...I described the symptoms down the phone and colic was diagnosed. Followed the vets advice and she was fine. Best to be on the safe side or at least put your mind at rest :)

Hope Bruno is ok...I know how he feels as the OH shut the boot on my head once. OUCH!

Keep us posted :)

I've shut my boot on my dogs head before. It only takes the once and they learn to keep their heads out of the way :) Mind you, I've also shut tails in doors too. They all know the word 'tails' when getting into the car now. :D They've all been fine afterwards, but if you are worried phone the vet.

Hey guys, I rang the vet last night as at one point his third eyelid was nearly covering his whole eye and he looked like he was possessed!!!!!!! The vet was really nice and told me not to worry and to bring him in the morning. I'm glad to say that his eyes are back to normal and he has been showering me with slobbery kisses all morning! I am still bringing him in at 10.15 as he may need some anti-inflammatorys. But what a nite!!!I hope everyone appreciates their presents!!!!! Thanks guys for the kind replys and for for giving me the confidence to ring the vet after me being so stupid and injuring me dog!! Kind regards, Clare

 your poor dog! :D Although I'm sure everyone has hit some part of their dog accidently or trodden on feet etc!  Glad that bruno is fine :)  He must have forgiven you! :)

I Know, I still feel awful! I took him to the vet this morning and he is happy enough with his eyes. His third eyelids are a little inflamed but I just have to keep an eye on him  to make sure they don't flare up. Thanks guys, Clare and Bruno

Glad to hear Bruno is ok :) Maybe you can train him to duck just before you close the boot in future?? :D

Hi Shaynlola, he is usually really good at lying down, but just as I was closing the door he decided to pop up again and get himself comfy!!!!

The time the OH shut the boot on my head, it happened because I was making sure that the dog's head was out of the way , since we got rid of the hatchback, heads are no longer a problem...just have to watch out for the tails now instead. At least you don't have that problem with Bruno :P

Thanks, might see if I can get along to that...that is, if I can get myself organised and get the Christmas shopping done. I have hardly done anything and I think I'm still in denial that it's now less than 3 weeks away    Have bought the dogs presents, though :D

Poor chap, glad he seems ok. My friend once shut the door on her dog's tail, she still feels awful about it and it was about 10 years ago! I shuffle around the house because I'm terrified of treading on those beautiful long plumes Cavaliers have!! :-)
