Topic Other Boards / Foo / Problem with pc - Please can anyone help
- By Joany Date 04.12.05 11:32 UTC
Hiya can anyone tell me what could be wrong - if I am in website and need the Adobe Reader it works OK until I have finished and want to close it I press the X in the top righthand corner sometimes it closes (takes a while) no problem and another time it seems to jam everything and I end up with just the desk top and if I have done anything on the website it is lost.
Hope I am not rambling too much I am a real novice at this.
Thank, Joany

I know what you mean, it used to happen to me :(

It only stopped happening when I removed Norton Anti Virus and Internet Security from my PC, in fact everything works better now I've removed them :)  I have different Internet Security and Anti Virus protection which doesn't interfere with anything ;)

You don't happen to be using Norton Anti virus/Internet Security by any chance?

Thanks for your reply Dill - spot on we have Norton.
Seasons Greetings Joany.

Hi Joany ditto as to same problems as yourself and Dill - however when I used just Norton AV (without the I/S package) everything was fine so if you have them loaded separately I'd advise uninstalling the second one to see if it resolves your problem.

HTH, Teri :)

I'd advise anyone to be careful about these "Internet Security" packages because they tend to conflict with just about everything! I had to reconfigure my Norton AV to get my broadband network running and a friend had nightmarish problems with a similar security product from McAfee which also seemed to be designed to keep the computer safe by regularly crashing it!

Also, for people running XP, be thoughtful about the Microsoft Internet Firewall too. Only this has a habit of being far too cautious about what it thinks you ought to be doing on the internet and often needs tweaking.

LOL the xp firewall blocks everything unless you tell it otherwise and as far as i'm aware thats about all the config u can do on it. I wouldn't advise anyone to rely on it :(

Thanks for your help.  It has also made me think about other little problems we have - definitely a touch of cannot live with them cannot live without them!
Regards Joany
