I am thinking of buying a Chihuahua puppy as a pet in the new year.
I have already got two small /med cross bred dogs, a bitch and a dog both have been neutered.
They are both good with other dogs and nice natured.
I dont have any children as mine are grown up.
Do Chihuahua's make nice pets, and are they too small to go with other dogs, or do they need to live with dogs of their own size.
All replies welcome.

Hello I have a Chihuahua male that is 8 months old. I have many friends around Europe (some of them breeders) and have been researching the breed for years before I decided to buy it, so I consider myself quite experienced ;) . Chihuahuas are lovely pets that want nothing else but to please you. They are extremely loyal and will do anything to make you happy..... that also means they are a bit needy. They'll follow you everywhere around the house 24/7. So if you want a dog that is happy on it's own and a bit independant, then Chis are NOT for you. If you work, then perhaps it's better that you have other dogs as they hate being alone. They mostly preffer company of another Chihuahua, but if they grow up with other breeds it's okay as well. The funny thing is that they really do tell the difference between Chihuahuas and other breeds. My Billy goes crazy when he sees another Chi..... it's quite funny actually :) .
Some people own Chihuahuas and big breeds like Labradors or even Great Danes, but I myself would't recommend it. A small dog (up to 15kg max) is okay, but if bigger you have to be very careful. Though Chihuahuas are extremely swift and I can't even think of stepping on him. He's just to fast.........
Kids are okay as well (I know many breeders that have small kids), but have to be taught how to handle a small dog like that. My Billy loves my cousin's babies and they love him.
If you have any more questions, just ask........ oh and before I go, let me tell you that if you do decide that this is the breed for you, be very, very careful about selecting a breeder. Due to it's popularity there are many, many bad breeders that will sell you anything..... unfortunately when grown up it doesn't look one bit like a Chihuahua. Go to breeders recommended by UK Chihuahua Club...... and get some books, there are loads you can buy of the Internet.
