Topic Dog Boards / Health / male dog with womb and ovaries
- By adam t [gb] Date 06.12.05 11:43 UTC
I took my male dog to be castrated yesterday and to my horror the vet informed me that he had a womb and ovaries.  He said he had only seen this twice in 30 years.
Does anyone out there know anything about this condition/problem.  I am still in a state of shock.
The vet removed it all.

I don't know about all breeds but I know it occurs occasionally in Cockers.  As you obviously don't have any breeding plans for your dog I don't think you need to concern youself at all he will make just as lovable a pet as he always had.  I wouldn't bother renaming him either :D.  I would, however, let his breeder know as she will probably wish to alter her breeding plans.

I remember a friend whose bitch did look like a bitch.  When she didn't come into season for 2 years they took her to the vets and she also had both.

As far as I know she's still alive and well and they've not had any problems with her.

I don't recommend Googling under this subject

Adam, how old is s/he?  Does s/he have seasons?  Is your vet going to spay as well as castrate him/her?

I've heard of it in cockers too - weird! Of course you could always call your dog Lesley / Leslie?? Seriously, I'm sure he'll be fine and just the same pet as ever. :-)
