As we haven't been furnished with all the facts surrounding this woman's circumstances, we aren't really in any position to comment.

We can only assume and human nature being what it is, we nearly always assume the worst :(

I read in the paper today that the "face donor" was also a suicide. She was the same age as the recipient. Again we don't know what led to this.

But.....back onto subject. I'm not sure that I agree with this surgical procedure.  The woman will have to take drugs for the rest of her life for it to be a success and even now, they don't know if the op has been successful as only time will tell whether her body rejects it or not.

As for the dog, it seems like a knee jerk reaction, but then, how do we know that the dog wasn't suffering from some kind of personality/medical affliction.

I'm still firmly of the opinion that you have to be suffering from a mental illness to even consider let alone go ahead with suicide. When people suffer from mental illnesses they are not rational in thought, so therefore cannot be held completely responsible for their actions.

You need to walk a mile in somebody else's shoes before you can make sweeping statements about their lifestyle and actions.

It's a sad tale all around, but the woman is lucky to be alive and I think from what she's been reported to have said, that she knows that. Even if it was an intentional overdose, I think she's paid a high price for a moment of irrationality. Nobody probably feels worse about the dog than what she must if she's as fond of her pets as we generally are. I hope it works for her and she makes the most of her life now. The anti rejection drugs she's going to have to take for the rest of her life have brutal side effects and if her body does reject the transplant, she's going to be in a much worse state than she was before.

I read in a newspaper today (sorry, don't recall which one as I just picked it up in work) that the lady in question accidentally overdosed on medication prescribed for a heart complaint.

The paper reported that the dog that inflicted the injury had been ordered to be PTS and that the lady herself was devastated by the decision as she is no way held the dog responsible and loved her pet dearly. It also said that she has acquired a puppy in celebration of being on the road to recovery.

gosh there seems to be so many conflicting stories going about.

i read yesterday (late on) that the op lady had taken a accidental OD of her heart drugs,& the dog had SCRATCHED & DUG at her face (no mention of any biting),also that the donor was a lady that had committed suicide.

i would imagine that this was the turn of events,i esuspect her breathing was bad hence why the dog concentrated around her mouth & nose :(

I read that last night too but the other day it said she was a suicide.

I guess we will never really know the truth about any of this but IT's the poor dog I feel sorry for.....

I'm starting to get broken record syndrome here saying that!!!

perhaps now might be a good time to let this thread lie.
Rather than a call to arms it might better serve as a reminder that judgement is better passed when in possession of the facts..
