I've posted on here many times about my B.C. puppy Wicket. He has the nerological disorder involving his throat muscles. Anyways he has luckely lived so far defying everyones belief's. He is now coming up on 6 months old. ? is he only has one testicale that has decended, Is he past the age that it will decend.

Sorry did'nt quite finish all info. I plan on him remaining whole till at least a year of age Lord willing, if it remain's undecended and the vets find him fit to proceed. Cause if I understand it correctly if they remain undecended they can cause problems? But then again it's kind of a risky thing especially for this pup. So how do you weigh the risks? Also aren't there problems known in B.C.'s with anesthesia?

The retained testicle can become cancerous because they are not disigned to be in the body. Most good vets advise leaving them in stitu until at least a year old & then castrating

As to the GA-I would hope the vets use the reversible GA so he only has to be under the minimum lenmgth of time. My boy will going to have his rear dew claws off shortly & they will be using Rapinovet

The theory goes like this.  Testicles are designed to be held outside the body.  If they are retained inside, the body keeps them at a higher temperature.  This gives a higher (not high) risk of them becoming cancerous.  Quite understandable? :)

In practice, I have never known retained testicles to be a problem.  That doesn't, of course, mean that it doesn't happen! ;)  In the grooming parlour I had 14 dogs, who were all over 10 years of age, with one or both testicles retained.  They were fit and health dogs with well balanced temperaments (some say that the retained testicle makes dogs temperamentally unbalanced??)

When asked, I usually advice owners to leave well alone but be aware and, if later in life, the dog has a problem that the Vet cannot work out, then remind him that there is a retained testicle to be considered.

PS  I see that we agree on the theory of testicles MM??!! ;)  Nice!

Sadly I know of over a dozen dogs with a retained testicle that developed testicular cancer(in the days before castrate everything was the vets attitude) & only two survived the op as TC can be very aggressive

I would have the retained one removed as they can be quite deeply inside the body & not papalable which makes routine checking a problem. my Rjj now has both his where they should be LOL small yet perfectly formed !

Moonmaiden I could not get your link to work. I am definatly interested in the easiest drugs to be used. And again I will not have this done till after a year, if ever. I take it also that by now he should of dropped?
Another completely different subject. Recently I have noticed that the tip of his tongue has a small white round bump. Very odd because it is rock hard and seems to cause no discomfort. Actually looks like a piece of one of his teeth is embedded somehow, though if this was so surely it would be painfull and infected. He will be seeing the vet soon to get his lungs looked at again(keeping track of his progress) I will show it to him then. Have you guys ever heard of such a thing?

Here you go:

Rapinovet

Our vets have it on file that they are only to use Rapinovet on our Mals, because as a breed they can have problems under GA.
