Hi Naomi
Jakes pedigree name is Bekkis Seafarer he too is out of coat but we still got a first at Paignton so never say never!!
I will look out for you I love all the sled dog breeds jake has been accepted on the non sled dog register with ABSA as we do a bit of sled dog training in the winter he loves it.
My aim is to compete with him but that is a long way off.
Anyway enough of my banter hope to see you on Sunday

Good choice Lynn, Bekkis are a lovely kennel I waited two years for my boy and he was definately worth waiting for. I think Virtuoso is a tri colour and called Woody am I thinking of the right one if so he is gorgeous!!!
Jake and him both have Bekkis Kitemark in their pedigree I think.
Do let me know how you get on with him, are you going to show your new pup??

Yes, it's Woody. I haven't met him but I've met his grandma and grandad at the East Anglian bcc show in May (Echo/Genesis and Geordie/Kitemark) - both absolutely adorable! The breeder I'm getting Abby from has used Geordie for a few litters and always says what super dogs the Bekkis boys are (not that she'd tell me they were rubbish really :)) It's the first time she's used Woody but it probably won't be the last.
My pup is lovely;I've just got back from meeting her for the first time!
I'm not sure about showing. I'll wait till she's a
little bit bigger and ask if she has any potential, but I must admit I like the idea.
Are you going to put some pictures of Jake on the MSN group site? I'd love to see him.

Jake did really well today he got a first in graduate, so well pleased with my boy he was a star he usually wilts in this hot weather, Eric Broadhurst just kept on moving them around and around luckily the chap that handled him for me is quite fit!! The icing on the cake was Bessland Fine Fettle got the ticket he is sired by Kitemark.

Abby is four weeks old tomorrow. There are the latest photos in the album on msn, and I'll keep updating that whenever any new ones arrive. I have been promised some more from Catherine. Don't know when though. From the photo of me holding Abby we've taken her head shot and used it as a screensaver - the picture's bigger than she is!

Hi Lynn
Found Abby she is a cutie!! The photo site is brilliant do post some more of her when she is a bit older I will follow her development with interest.
It would be great if you showed her, I met a nice couple at S.W.K.A on Sunday with a dog out of Kitemark they were from Surrey and they got a fourth with him so were really chuffed.
By the way you do look about 15!!

I had entered, but have decided to take Tyler out of the ring until next year on the advice I received from a really nice judge at Windsor.

Would have a word with one or two other people who know your breed well before you stop showing, unless you can see for yourself why you should stop. If your dog is not ready for champ show you could still show at open shows. do you want to share with us what the problem is we may be able to help but I for one will understand if you would rather keep it to yourself. But bet you are not the first with whatever prob. it is. All the best Jackie

Tyler doesn't like being looked over by judges. His first show he was great, he just stood there while the judge went over him, but at every show he gets worse. At Crufts, though, he wasn't too bad, just misbehaved when being moved (but the other dogs did aswell) and the critique was very positive which is why I kept showing him. But, at an Open show last month I drove home in tears because the judge nearly withheld his BOB (we were the only ones that bothered to enter) and went on to say how that when she looked into his eyes she thought he was going to have a go at her. The only reason she didn't withhold was because of the paperwork involved.
Then at Windsor the judge said that he was the correct type (as did Crufts judge) but suggested that I take him out of the show ring for a while to let him forget about it. So I am going to leave it till next year as he has already qualified for Crufts & concentrate on his obedience. Hopefully that might help, if not I'll just get him castrated & do obedience & agility with him.

Sorry you are having trouble with Tyler, first the open show judge was wrong she can't withold BOB - you can withold place cards but not BOB unless she dismissed him from the ring because she was gone for, which was not the case and as you were the only one there you had to be awarded the BOB. As to his problem I don't think he will forget about showing however long you take him out of the ring, you don't say how old he is, it may be another case of teenage loutish behaviour. He is challenging the right of anyone to touch him and although I agree you can't put him in the ring and risk him biting, I do think you need help to get him through this. It's diffcult because even dog trainers don't like being bitten but on the other hand I don't think he should be allowed to get away with it. I have had a similar problem with my young man, he did not threaten but would not allow anyone to touch him, it took a long while but we have got him over it now, although I still ask to show his teeth in the show ring but at ring craft we are working on this too and will get there in the end. Wishing you all the luck and don't give up. Jackie
PS Thought a judge would know better than stare into a dogs eyes you can check colour and shape without doing that

Thank you so much for your kind words. Tyler is 16 months old & the judge at Windsor said it could be because of him being a teenager. I had to stop taking him to ringcraft when he was about 8 months as he really, really hated it because it was a very small hall with lots of people & noise (he can be noise sensitive). Maybe he's just not meant to be a show dog. It's typical though, I waited 3 years to get him primarily for showing & it turns out he doesn't like it!

Showing. Are you sure he does not like it, how is he when you groom him, what about when you are a obiedence class, does he like the car, do you get a response when you get the show bag ready. I ask because it could be he does not want to be touched and showing or not he will have to learn to be touched. Have you asked his breeder for advice or do you not like their methods. If you want to e-mail me about how we coped with my selfwilled young lout, feel free. Jackie

He is fine when I brush him & is fine with people he knows touching him. It does take him a while to get to know someone, though. Car journeys can be a bit of a nightmare. He barks at nothing for a couple of minutes then starts again when we get to our destination. Once he gets out of the car he is fine, the odd little bark at any dog that happens to be passing. Once he has settled he seems to enjoy going to shows & walking about (I always take him with me when going round the stalls rather than leaving him on the bench). It's just when he gets in the ring it's hard to get his attention when trying to stand him then when it's his turn to be seen he won't stay still & keeps leaning on me (which I think is my fault as I did use to comfort him but I am making a point of pushing him away whenever he does it now). The breed (Australian Shepherd) is supposed to be wary of strangers, but he seems to have gone one step further & is nervous of strangers.

Ah Freeway, an Aussie eh? I used to breed Aussies, and you MUST be really firm with him. Not unkind, dont misunderstand me, but really firm. They are of equal intelligence to the Border Collie and if allowed to get away with something once, will keep trying it on. I cant imagine what the judge was thinking off to stare him on the eyes, should def. have known better with an Aussie. If I can help at all, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks Philippa. Tyler HATES people he doesn't know staring at him. He has had a go at people when they do it. They do it though because most of them haven't seen an Aussie before especially a red merle with ODD EYES which people stare at.
I had a GSD that was unusually coloured. We went to an exemption show & he was just lying down minding his own business when this couple stood a couple of feet away from him, staring at him. The next thing I know, my arm's being pulled out of it's socket because he's got up to have a go at them. I wish people wouldn't do it, it is one of my pet hates.

Hi Freeway, This is quite a common problem in Wolfhounds, both male and female. It does, to some extent , seem to be age related, as in teenage lout !! Have you tried Rescue Remedy on him? One bitch in particular that I had, hated anyone standing behind her, she would spin round, but showed no aggression. The jusge could handle her, and look at teeth, but as soon as he stood behind to look at hocks etc, round she would go. I made a mistake that time, and spoke kindly to her, sort of, there there, never mind. A kindly judge told me off, in a nice way, and said I was praising her for her behaviour, and to use a cross voice. Made sense when I thought about it. I live near Southend on Sea, which has a really busy High Street. I used to walk her up and down the High Street on a Saturday afternnon, so whichever way she turned, someone was behind her, and this cure soon worked. I wish you loads of luck with your little un, and Im pretty sure he will come out of it.

Thanks Philippa. I have thought about trying Rescue Remedy, where do you get it from. I have tried other things, herbal drops in his water, tablets from Dorwest Herbs, but none have worked.

Hi Philippa, think you think as I do, he behaves as he does because he wants to and can get away with it, I also think because of his age it needs nipping in the bud, now. As you know the breed better than I, no not better, I don't know them at all, you are in the best position to advice, so I'll but out. Jackie

Jackie, please don't feel that you have to butt out. I need all the advice I can get :)
Louise

Thank you Louise, well for a start I would put on his show collar and lead and put him in a stand, then get a previously asked person to walk round him and you at a distancy of say 3 feet, and not to look into his eyes, in fact at first not to look at him at all, you tell him to stand and if he is still, praise and treat, I use a clicker. It may take a while to get this exercise right but be patient and if you need move the person playing the judge further away and only walk from the head to the tail on one side, what you are tring to acheave is to be able to praise and reward the dog for doing what you ask. don't tell him off if he does not do it right but praise when he does. Dont let anyone approch from behind when you have him in the stand. Once you have got that going well and he will stand still whilst the person walks from front to back then get someone different. Don't rush this exercise, but do keep going to clubs and if the ringcraft near you is not suitable or they don't or wont understand your problem try further afield, I travel a round trip of 70 miles every week but understand that you may not be able to and you may find another nearer. sorry rambled but can't explain in a short way as I would not want you to try and hurry things. Oh and only do the practice for a short time each time about 5 mins at a time and if you can 3 or 4 times a day. good luck,Jackie

Jacquie beat me :( lol.
Kanni deserved first though ;) She is great Jacquie, you should be really proud of her. Definately one to watch out for in the future!
Kiera pulled me around the ring like a looney and came third.
Think you were right Jacquie, won't be able to keep it up for much longer, the bump was in agony all night. Guess she is a lot stronger than our other dog.
Well done,
Naomi
