I have a pug she is will be 3 in january and she came in heat on Novemeber 20 and im trying to breed her she is still bleedin and today is the 13th day i think i have the male dog here with her and they still arent doin anything what should i do what am i doin wrong. She isnt bleedin that much she has slowed down. So when she stops bleedin is that will she will stand for the male.

The stud dog will know when the time is right, trust his instinct :)
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 07:23 UTC
He doesnt even try anymore like when i first brought him here he did but now he just licks her and thats it about it. The male has been here since the Friday after Thanksgiving i had taken him back over his house on Tuesday eveing then brought him back Wednesday afternoon. Do u have to keep them seperated or it doesnt matter. So will she give any signs when she is ready? Like sometimes she is really flirty with him and wants to play and she sniffs his thing and all then other times she dont want nuffin to do with him. This is also the first she has been around another dog.
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 04.12.05 07:37 UTC
He doesn't try because she isn't ready :) Bitches vary as to when they are ready ...if the stud dog is experienced, he will know when she is ready
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 07:45 UTC
yes he is experienced ty for the help. So will she still be bleeding when she is ready or would she be done the bleeding? Will she bleed thoughout the season

- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 07:56 UTC
so when they breed later like that do they usually have bigger litters or is that not alwayz true like when urs had the puppies how many did she have?
- By briedog [gb] Date 04.12.05 08:06 UTC
bitch will only product how many pup bye the release of the eggs at the time of ovltion.the dogs sperm will deside where it boy or girls pup.

gollie was mated on the above day and had 5 avage for their breed.
wispa had my fcr was mated on day 10 and 12 had 10 in her 1st litter then mated on 11 and 13 had 7 on her 2nd litter then day 10 and 12 on her 3rd litter 1 pup.

brie was mates on 12 and 12 1st litter 9 and the same day on 2nd litter 5

all diferent days and different sizes in litter you never know plus she may not mate and she may no go into whelp,

So she may not even let him mount her this is the 1st time ive tired to mate her. When urs mated waz the bitch still bleeding i just wasnt sure like i thought the vet said she would stop bleeding then thats when she will usually let him mount her i dunno Does it matter weither u bring the male to the female or the female to the male. Because I brought the male here because the lady i got him from has like 7 other dogs and she said it would be better if i got him cauz of the other dogs.

get her blood tested by idexx to see when she ready,

my stud has gone to bitches and had bitches at his house if it a good stud dog he not worried about it.

his the stud dog youy got here living with you or it the owner bring him to you each day.
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 08:32 UTC
the stud is here stayin with me. I had the vignal smear test done but it waz pretty much no help like they just said she waz in the middle stange and i pretty much already knew that. what would the blood test consist of. Like it would tell me like the day she is ready. Well the studs owner told me to keep him as long as i needed i just check in with her to let her know how he is doin and stuff but ty for helpin me on this so i may just wait it out i dunno im anxious for her to make babies lol.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 04.12.05 08:37 UTC
Has she had a litter before? Many maiden bitches are flirty but too nervous to stand properly, moving away when the dog mounts. If he's tried before she's ready and she's told him off, many dogs will be gents and politely give up trying unless the bitch is firmly held.
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 08:43 UTC
no this is her 1st ive tired he hasnt tired to mount her lately he waz goin heavy at it though when he 1st come here, but he spells her and licks her everyday and she is flirty with him and sniffs his thing then the next min she dont want nuffin to do with him. Today is her 13th goin on 14th tomorrow beacuse the 20 of november is when i 1st spoted blood. But hope she does something lol thank you everyone for all the replies

Is the stud owner not helping with this mating? she has simply let you take the dog and left you to get on with it? I may be jumping to conclusions here, and apologise if I am, but unless you experienced at managing matings, I would forget about using this stud and find a reputable stud dog owner who will support and help you with this mating.
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 19:23 UTC
Well the stud owner she really dont know much about the mating either. Goliath, which is the stud, has had two other litters. The litters that he had was with her fawn pug and they just happened to get pregnant like she woke up and they were locked together but the female she has is now fixed. I had taken Gizzie to the vet on Friday and they said she was in the middle of her heat so they said they would just keep him here. I did talk with another lady about using her stud but she wanted 350$ what if i pay her the money and still nothing happenes. Should i try to change their environment.

My bitches have bled all the way through their seasons, and we've had successful (as in resulting in a litter) matings as late as days 18 and 20. However that's with the bitch being taken to the dog, or both on neutral territory, and they didn't run together at any other time. They were only allowed together (always one on lead) when the bitch was ready to be mated.

In my experience breeding pugs an awful lot of dogs need help and encouragement from an experienced stud person.  Just leaving them to it  will often be of no use at all.  I agree with the advice to contact the dog owner.  It soudns as if your girl ovulates late, if she is still bleeding.
bye

Well how will i know when she is ready. I do keep the dogs together all the time does it matter wither u seperate them or not. I had read a post on here and sumone gave another advice on this similar subject and she waz telllin her to try giving them a bath and that sumtimes works i gave gizzie a bath but nothing happened lol. Should i try to give both of the dogs baths and see if they get anymore spunky. I dunno if i didint want her to get pregnant she would thats how is usually works I just want one of her puppies im not doin it to go into the breeding business or anything like that this may even be the only time i try to breed her i waz gonna get her fixed but then i waz like no i at least want to have one litter of puppies. How old were your dogs when they had there first litter.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 04.12.05 20:04 UTC
I don't mate a bitch before she's 2½ years old, because I don't think they're mature enough before - but I don't have a toy breed. Personally I wouldn't keep the two together all the time - the dog is more likely to be interested if his access to the bitch is limited. Keep them in separate parts of the house and only introduce them together once a day. Give them 10 minutes to flirt, then hold the bitch firmly so she can't snap at him or twist away and see if they'll mate. If he's not interested, separate them again for 24 hours.

Have you ever attended a mating before? Do you know about the tie and the turn? If you don't then get experienced help because both dog and bitch can be damaged if something is allowed to go wrong.
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 04.12.05 20:35 UTC
Gizzie will be 3 in January so i think is is old enough. No i havent attended a mating before. Like they told me they will lock togehter and if they do to confort the female to make sure they dont hurt each other. Is your dog a lager breed? Like he lickes her everyday does that mean he is checkin to see if she is ready? She lets him lick her and everything like she just stands there. maybe ill try to seperate them and see what happenes will i miss it though if i seperate them.

Think Gwen is correct most small breeds need a good
Stud person to help with the mating,  are there any
dog people close to you?,
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 04.12.05 23:46 UTC
After they tie the dog needs to be turned - this takes an experienced person to manage if neither dog not bitch is to be injured. If there is nobody on hand who's managed this the best advice I can give you is to forget the whole thing until you're better prepared.
- By FloBee18 [us] Date 05.12.05 05:13 UTC
well tonight was the night they finally mated at about 10:45 and lasted for about 15 to 20 mins and they did just fine I held her and helped her though it. Neither of them were injured i also helped the stud he knew what he is doin he just stood there. Do they have to mate twice or will once work. Thanks everyone for the replies and advice.
- By RRfriend [se] Date 05.12.05 05:35 UTC
Well done, being there for them when the "big occasion" :-p finally took place!
The dog you are using is obviously experienced enough to know when is the right time. The tie lasted more than long enough for you to be satisfied with the mating, actually a tie isn't necessary for a mating to succeed.  I would let them rest today, preferably separated, and then let them meet again  tomorrow. If he is still intrerested, let them have another mating, and then call it a day. By then, if I recall your OP right, she will be on her eighteenth day. There is always the alternative of keeping him for two more days, and try again after another day.  Good luck with everything. :-)

Thank you, i didnt really know what to do i just held her to make sure she didnt hurt him or her cauz she waz flipping out at 1st then i came over and she waz ok she just didnt know what to do i guess but i waz excited lol. Yes the stud did very well. I will let them rest today and then if they are interested i will let them get together tomorrow. So does the 1st mate not alwayz take since it is like the 14th day today. If not i guess ill just wait till the 30th day and try for the blood test to see if she is pregnant i just hope it worked.

Flo

Have you ever had a litter before?    If not, you have approximately two month to make sure that you are doing everything right.   If you haven't already got it, please get a copy of The Book of the Bitch - and make sure you read it from cover to cover so that you do know what to expect!

Regards
