Hello,
We boarded are healthy girl for three days, a sixty pound Aussie... When we picked her up we were told she had tape worms. She's never had a worm in the four years we've had her. Could she of picked this up at the vets in 3 days? or was it something she probably would of had regardless of her 3 day stay?
Now that she has tape worms what do we do? We've called several different vets and get as many answers... What to do?
Thanks you your help... Also how does this affect humans, do I want my kids near her until she's rid of her little pests?
Regards and Best of Health to all your Babies,
Ginger

go to your vet and ask for 3 drontal plus tablets, end of problem.a dog should be wormed every 3 months regardless if you see any worms or not.

She should also be treated for fleas (ie. Frontline) as fleas are the usual cause of tapeworm. They act as an intermediate host of the tapeworm then when the dog ingests the flea it becomes infected.
Hi Ginger, think the worms would have been germinating inside before being passed so the worms would have been present inside before her 3 days boarding. I feed mine a raw diet & non of my dogs at the moment have worms, so treat her with drontal plus. Worms can usually happen with a presence of fleas, so check your dog for them as well. Good hygeine practice is a good idea ie: washing hands after handling dog, picking up straight away after dog has pooped, don`t let them lick faces etc.

PS my dogs have no fleas either since being fed raw.

Dogs pick up tape worms from eating mice and voles and it is best to worm on a regular basis, Dontrol + will do the job. Dogs will not usual pass whole worms just segments which look like grains of rice. Can also be caught from cats who get them from mice and are also the usual cause of fleas. It is not likley that a dog would pick up and develop worms in a three day stay at a vets, fleas yes. Jackie H
