Ok. We must be one of the only people without sky tv yet. We are thinking of getting it but need your opinion.
Which is the best to go for Sky TV or Digital viewing?? or can someone tell me the difference and options, I am somewhat confused with the whole thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers.
In my opinion i wouldnt bother with any.We hardly watch the TV at all. There are so many more things to do than sit watching the tele.We are a very active family and do alot of walking and watre sports in the summer months. We also tend to read alot too, even the kids.I think that too much emphasis is put on the tele now and people do not know how to occupy their time doing other things.
No dissrespect meant to those avid soap opera fans of course. :)

I get ITV2 and E4 with a set top box. And I've bought one for under £30 for a friend's Christmas Pressy.

We haven't got Sky or digital and can't be bothered getting either. :)

I prefer SKY but, they have a nasty habit of increasing the amount you pay each month. :(
I got SKY 3 years ago and was paying £28 for the whole package, for the same package I now pay £41.
I wouldn't mind but we are not allowed to watch it.
Nick jr and cbeebies is always on. :D

It depends on what you like to watch. Sky is great if you are a movie fan as we are. We have chosen not to go with the sport channels, but that might be your cup of tea. Sky Gold is also a favourite, all the old comedies.

We have SKY+ and it is fab, I really can't imagine being without it now :)

We have cable, purely because where we live we can't get a decent TV signal, which also means we can't get Sky. We've had Sky come out and put an extension pole on our chimney, but still no signal......we have found cable to be really good, at least the picture stays when it's raining heavy! We've gone for the supreme package (not films) as having 4 children they tend to watch LOTS of music channels and cartoons!
We're happy with it. :-)

was Thinking about Sky + Mel they have a good deal on it just now was thinking for all the Xmas films.
We have Sky + and are very happy with it when it works. We have great problems recording anything. It either records backwards (ie if you are half way through a film and can't watch the end of it, it records from the beginning and stops where you pressed record - go figure) or it does not record at all.
Have spoken to Sky so many times and it is fixed for a day or so but plays up again shortly after.

We have had no problems with SKY+ except for it dying completely once, we called SKY and they offered to replace the box for a £60 callout. Stephen checked the insides of the box, found out the manufacturer of the hard drive and contacted them. They replaced it free as THEY have a longer guarantee than SKY ;)
We record on the touch of a button, rewind live TV, do series link with one touch
Heaven :p

We have cable TV, primarily because we can't get good reception here. I wouldn't like to be without it now as most of the programmes on the 5 main channels are rubbish. We mostly watch the History Channel, UK Gold, Discovery etc and BBC 4. Despite only being 25 miles from London, we can't get Freeview :(

We have Sky+ and I wouldn't be without it. It makes me far more selective over my tv viewing. For those that feel it is expensive, I have no problem getting them to offer my package for half price on a regular basis. I'm only paying half price for the next four months! Don't sit back and accept the cost you are paying without challenging them. Of course this is after your initial 12 months obligation.

We got Sky+ installed about 2 months ago. We had Sky in our old house (nearly 3 years ago) but switched to cable when we moved. I never thought that cable was as good as Sky so when the OH got a great offer for Sky+ through his employer, we jumped at it. I really like having Sky+...we have had no problems with it at all so far (touch wood) and it is very simple to use. I like the fact that you can set it to record an entire series at the touch of a button so I never miss my favourite programmes. the ability to pause and rewind live TV is a great feature too :)

YOU ARE NOT ALONE :) :) :)
We only have the 4 ordinary channels :) I'm interested in Freeview digital but we can't get that in our area, or at least we can't unless we pay for SKY  - but then it wouldn't be free ;) :)

When my VCR stopped working a few months ago I decided to get a sky+ box instead of my ordinary box, the upgrad cost was not bad, about £90, but the only way they woudl give me the upgrade was to either increase my package to one of the more expensive ones (with movies and sport which I dont watch) costing about £40 plus per month, or upgrade to the multiroom package costing over £40 too, not exactly useful for someone on their own! So I gave up and have just stuck with regular Sky, jsut can't justify to myself £40+ per month for TV!
bye
Gwen
The only thing I don't like about Sky+, is if you have set it to record something say at 7 o'clock, and that program comes on late, it still records from 7 o'clock, a few times we have watched a whole film or program and then missed the ending because it started late :( It would be better if it worked off the video+ numbers because they record when the program is on, and not just from a certain time.
Also, before you go away for a weekend, and set it up to record a load of things (including X Factor

) and then your wally of a hubbie switches all of the plugs off around the house, for some reason, when you go to finally watch the X Factor after a weekend of wondering what happened, and who sang what, and were they any good, and who went home, you go to the Sky+ planner and find that all of the recordings
FAILED

:D

I have been digging my heels on the TV front. If I got Sky TV every minute of the TV viewing time would be sport. I have a sport mad son who is watching sport when not playing sport and an OH who would rather watch sport than anything I would like to watch. So far we compromise but if there was anything with England playing i.e. at the moment cricket there would be ructions because as far as they are concerned England playing anything is their trump card.

We have Sky+.....I think it is great....Only problem is when my husband is in as he likes to watch sport....sport....sport.....and then more sport ! When you want to tape something it is just at the touch of a button rather than running around looking for a blank video tape. I say go for it.

We have Sky but for two reasons only - television reception is diabolical round here and we are footy mad! Oh and we also can't get Freeview so that wasn't an option. However, although I really enjoy Sky Sports I've yet to watch anything on any of the movie channels, or the ancient re-runs of sitcoms and soaps let alone the shopping channel rubbish and I'm afraid I'm still one of those people who'd rather turn the blessed thing off and do something else rather than channel hop to try and find something vaguely worth watching.
We've been quite happy with Sky (including the service on our only callout in three years) but you do have to watch the way they package their deals because it's very easy to end up paying for more than you need.
