I thought it might be an interesting idea to share with each other the contents of our show bags...My kit has evolved over the years..some of the items seem bizarre, but theres always a reason for them!...So..here goes..Leads..lots of them...white ones in plastic bag , brown, black or chains in seperate bag. Rings clips in RED bag...It's always the one you scramble for...lol . Small grooming kit (no point in lugging weight through a muddy car park) ..Paw wax..(for indoor shows .a godsend). Water bottle (filled and cooled the night before and put in a stay cool jacket). Collapsable bowl. Slobber cloths.two dry, one wet and in plastic bag..(for last minute dramas!) Spray bottle(great for cooling an overheated dog in the ring) Small first aid kit. Benching chains and collars. Bach Rescue Remedy(not just for the dog!) Packet of Ginger nuts..great for early morning tummy grumbles or if your pup refused his morning feed before you left.Wet wipes. Container of glucose and a pinch of salt ready to add to water for dehydrating pups after a slobbery journey. And finally...a corkscrew..lol...well, you never know!

I've just checked my bag and I've got - show lead in end pocket of bag along with a spare in case Holly manages to break her proper one ... slicker brush (in plastic bag or it snags on everything) ... comb ... water spray bottle ... bottle of water ... water bowl ... manky teddy bear ... benching chain ...quick stop ... nail clippers ... small pot of frankfurter sausages ... baby wipes ... first aid kit ... spare battery for mobile phone ... phone card (in case I lose my mobile and have to use a payphone) ... change for the payphone (in case I lose my card!) ... disposable camera ... spare pair of knickers (in case I get run over) ... tampax ... spare house keys ... terry nappy for drying of Holly ... sun tan lotion ... purse with emergency money in ... deoderant ... and a packet of cigarettes and a lighter. (I don't smoke anymore but they're there in case I feel the need to start again!!)

There was also loads of other bits in there that Issy has put in when trying to tidy up but I don't really think I need to take a pair of baby socks, a dummy, half eaten apple or a video of the teletubbies with me :D

Forgot the pack of poo bags, my list of people I'm supposed to be looking for at the show, show catalogue to remind me which classes I'm entered in and a huge packet of fruit pastiles.

Just checked the other pocket!! Can of slimfast (incase I get desperate) ... pen ... spare show clip (incase I forget to wear the proper one) ... spare pair of tights (in case I decide to scare the judges by wearing a skirt and snag the ones I'm wearing) ... asthma inhaler ... spare car keys ... spare bra (incase a snap a strap on the one I'm wearing - don't laugh, it's happened before!) and a jar of baby food for Issy.

Oooh, my favourite! If I bump into you at a show I'll have to remember your stash of fruit pastiles! :D I don't really fancy winnalot sticks and soggy cheese and the only other food they seem to have is a burger bar most of the time......since finding a large chunk of bone in one the other day, (when I was soooooo hungry I just had to eat something - even a manky burger!) I've rather gone off them.

Must remember to pack food for us and not just Mr Shad next time!! :)

Wow! I suddenly feel like my show kit is pretty inadequate!! :) :)

For Mr Shad, we have the following in my bag.....................Giant poo bags, show collar and lead, crunchy stick things for him to munch on, low fat chicken strips, little winnalot sticks, lumps of cheese, large brush, plastic and so far (touch wood!) indestructable bone. Bottle of water, no bowl as he quite likes to drink direct from the bottle :), strange pup that he is!

For Mr Shad we have following in my pocket......................crunchy stick things, low fat chicken strips, little winnalot sticks and lumps of cheese.

Among all of that is normally my phone and keys for me, plasters for my fingers when he nibbles on them in the ring, Rescue Remedy - again for me ;) and a pigs ear........ which is *not* for me!! :D Oh, and the show programme (normally covered in crumbs and soggy cheese) and directions to the show as well!

That's about it really, Mat has the money and drives, holds Mr Shad when I'm not in the ring and generally looks after me and the boy, bless him! :)

Just looking at that lot..............do you think maybe he's a food motivated kinda dog perhaps?! :D :D :D

Hmm might be doing something wrong here my show kit fits in a bum bag!

Liver for Bait front large pocket
Scissors and twisers small side pocket
Pens, pencils, entry passes and ring number arm band, packets of tissues, wipes oh and essential 'ST's' (u know wot I mean ladies), steroids, antacids & other necessary human drugs to keep me upright all in the back large pocket.
Brush, comb, leads SEVERAL Semi chokes, full Chokes, all in one leads etc for showing different dogs, Purse, 2 x inhalers ventolin and seretide, nappy sacks all reside in the large central pocket.
Finally another comb and ringclips in the smallest pocket in the front.

The dogs have a bowl each in their cages which I fill with water at the venue and of course their chew's and toys travel with them - oh and the aboistop travels around my males neck as he likes to bark at the lorries as they pass him on the motorway!

I have a large tool bag!!!! so here goes from what i can remember:

1. Pooh bags
2. Varied slicker brushes
3. Varied show leads for the gsd and the cocker
4. Leather half check
5. Shamey leather
6. Towels
7. Combs
8. Anti tangle spray (an absolute must)
9. Water and a foldable water bowl
10. Stake and chain to attach dogs to when the need arises
11. Hammer to put the above in
12. Vetbed
13. Packets of treats

Then on the day the usaul mobile phone, ringclip, map, chairs, food and drink, which usaully have to fit into the box which is on top of the car because there is no more room inside, i have probably left things out but that is most of it, apart from me and the doggies:D

Mines got smaller over the years,
Bag with headache, indigestion, Piriton pills, spare socks & pants, female things
Poo bags
Collar & lead per dog
Slicker
Pad wax
Small purse with small change and dogs credit card
4 bottles of water
Water bowl
Towel (dogs)
Bait (when I don't forget)
and usualy lots of hair from previous shows I'm very tidy and never throw the contents of the slicker on the floor so it goes into the bag until I can't stand it any longer
It's still the same flight bag but now days its not so full & I use a Chairman trolley/seat at champ shows but just throw the flight bag in, the trolley is to bring home anything I can't bear to leave the show without, not pushed anyones dog in.

YET!!!!!

- By mari [ie] Date 12.07.02 18:47 UTC
Well im proud to say I too had a bag like that many moons ago :) :)
but somehow it has shrunk :(
Mari

Whoops I forgot some stuff (told you I would)
2 small bowls (for water)
1x 2litre bottle of water (can refill at the show, I also carry 5 litres bottle in the car)
1x spray mister (for water whilst in the ring)
nail files (for the dog)
Pooh bags (nappy sacks, both in the car & in the show bag)
and probably some more 'stuff' that you never know you might need.
(Like vet bed/blankets if I'm at a champ show)
If so that's normally means two bags as I also have my packed lunch too.
I also have my mobile phone, purse and breakdown card with me.

I too have a trolley which I take to shows if I take cages.
I've found that the fishing trolley is a brilliant addition to my
show equipment. 1) It wasn't as expensive as some of these
trolleys marketed for showing people. 2) It's designed to go across all terrain cause its for fishermen. So the wheels never get stuck in the field. It's my own 4x4 trolley :)
The only thing I may need to do is a little adaption and have a little
mesh welding on part of it due to if you haven't got cages then your bags etc fall through.
Oh and another useful thing to carry, folding chairs, as you never know when you'll need one.
In my car I also have the windscreen reflective cover and 2 reflective sheets to put over the car to keep it cool whilst we are at the show.
The reflective sheets also double up in the winter as an underblanket
which I place under the vetbed to keep the dogs warm.
Bungees for the trolley and sheets are in the car.
So I do have quite a loaded car depending on which type of show :)

What I want to know is....if everyone seems to have so little in their bags...why do so many people go into the shows loaded down with trolleys etcs? :D
