The 'ideal' demise, where a well dog falls asleep and drifts away peacefully is very rare indeed. A 'natural' death is usually long drawn-out and uncomfortable at best; very painful at worst. :( Animals are blessed that we're allowed to prevent their suffering.

Bunty Williams,
Please do what you feel is right.  I only hope that your vet will make a house call.  Naturally for this poor dog has got to be horrible.  I can only say I would not like to be in your situation.  My girl at 15 did go in her sleep on the day that I made the appointment at the vets.  Literally just an hour before the appointment.  Sydney went at home and I only wish I had done it sooner.  The last few hours of her life could not have been confortable for her but like your sister I was in denial.  Please. Please you show such respect for your sister and such caring for this dog.  Help him to go peacefully and at home with a little help from your vet.  It's hard but don't let him go through what my girl had to because of my denial.

Bunty.......if it was my dog and I was on holiday - I would most definately be on the first plane back home. A dog is part of the family and much loved.  It sounds like your sister is in denial of how bad things are.....I really do feel for you. I hope you have the courage to do what you believe is right.

From my experience Taz not eating much at all, then going off his food and he passed away with in 5 days. With in those 5 days he did have his puppy moments and kinda playen with Junior, wanting lots of hugs and kisses as well. I think it was his way of saying good bye. He did drink a lil but the last day like I said only ate I think to make me feel better. Personally I don't think this lil man has much time left at all, Iam glad Taz was able to pass away naturally. He did have full control over his body functions until that night he pood in our porch, I think because he did eat for me..... I don't think this lil man has much time left at all, best of luck and I hope she comes home soon. It is an awful position for you to be in :(

Friend of mine went on holiday & left her dogs in another mutual friends kennels, her bitch collapsed & as they were abroad our kennel owning friend rang me for advice as there was nothing the vet could do. I contacted the friend on holiday & she agreed to go with what the vet advised & sadly her girl was PTS. When she got back from holiday she was glad we had told her & agreed that it was the best decision, & that if we hadn't been able to reach her she would have been ok with us making the decision for her. Her bitch hadn't been ill at all before she went away.

Yes it did tarnish her holiday but she knew we wouldn't let her girl suffer(& she would have done had she not been PTS)

This little dog would be at RB if he had been left with me. Upsetting as it is to make the decision we have to do the best for our pets

Hi,
It is so sad that he has gone to RB but also a blessing too!  He must have felt love from you too, you was in such a hard position, well done for coping the way you did.  He has been in my thoughts since you first posted I am pleased he can run free now!!
