Topic Dog Boards / General / Northamptonshire - dog friendly?
- By Freedom2010 [gb] Date 28.11.05 18:57 UTC
OH has been short-listed for a job in Northampton and I just wondered if anyone lives in the area and what it is like.  I am really interested in how dog friendly it is, whether there are lots of nice walks, what areas are best, that sort of thing.  Of course he might not get the job but it's as well to be prepared :)
Thanks and best wishes

Hi Treacle,

I live in a vilage not too far from Northampton. I've not lived in any other area, so can't really compare it to anything, but it seems good to me :)

There are a few good training clubs around, and plenty of country walks, although if you move into the town itself, these would be a bit of a drive. I'd say that generally it is a fairly dog friendly area.

Just to be nosey by the way, which area are you looking at, Northants, like anywhere has some lovely, and some not so lovely areas :)

I used to live in Rushden (Northamptonshire) we didn't have a dog, but from memory there were some nice walks and parks around there, I used to take our nextdoor neighbours dog out to the park with our son and the dog loved it!

Has anyone been to Salcey Forrest in Northants?  I keep meaning to take a drive there with Glazby but need to get some directions first!!  :-)

It is a lovley area with some good dog walks, hanvt been for a while, but must go back soon. Yardley chase is quite good too, oh and the Harold odel country park. We dont get to the north of the county so much but there are some good walks round reservoirs.

Thank you to all who replied, sorry not to be back earlier but we have had internet problems!!  Hairyloon, the job itself is in north Northampton nearish the Moulton Park area.  Having driven round the ring-road from the South in rush-hour I think we would be looking to live north of the town. :)  Preferably a more rural location in fairly easy travelling distance and with walkable dog walks (if that makes sense!).  We have not looked at any particular locations as yet as don't want to tempt fate so any suggestions would be very welcome indeed!
Thanks for your help.
Best wishes

Northamptonshire is a great dog walking place with tons of bridleways and country parks.

I did my NEBOSH Course at Moulton College earlier this year - its a lovely place (though a bit scary driving through Moulton Village)!!  :-)

Hi Treacle,

Pitsford Reservoir is a good place to walk, quite a good trek round (well it tires me out anyway!). There are some lovely villages just outside the town, East and West Haddon, the Bramptons (v. posh!), Brington are all nice, and then Overstone and Sywell, slightly to the NE are also pretty good too.

Loads of choice for walkies near any of those villages, there are tons of bridleways and footpaths around the area.

Good luck with your house hunting!!

Hi Claire
Thank you very much for the information (and everyone else) :)  The interview was yesterday (all day) and went quite well he thinks although you really never know do you.  Hopefully should hear in the next couple of days so I'll let you know if we're heading Northwards and, if so, we'll go and have a look at the villages you've mentioned.  Thanks again, much appreciated.
Best wishes
Alex
