Topic Dog Boards / Health / Drinking Enough?
- By Sarahlolly [gb] Date 30.11.05 22:36 UTC
I really don't think my older dog Jack is drinking enough.

He is fed on Naturediet but doesn't seem to drink too much water.

I wasn't particularly worried as he does drink out of his bowl but tonight I noticed that his wee has a particularly strong smell.

He is in wonderful health and has no other issues.

He is still weeing regularly.

Advice anyone??

mabe he has a water infection ...fill his bowl and note how much he has drunk in the day

dogs that are fed dry  do tend to drink a lot more than food such as naturediet
you mention older dog ...what age is he??
you have to be careful with kidneys in older dogs as my old boy use to get infections occasionally
but if his urine is strong and you are concerned catch a morning pee on a saucer and take it to the vets for tests.

Thanks Roni

I'll see what its like tomorrow, if it is still strong I will be whipping a sample to the vets.

*Got visions of myself traipsing around after him with a sample bottle!!!"

Is there any way I can encourage him to drink more?

If it's any help, both of my dogs are on Naturediet, and neither of them drink an awful lot either - if they do ever drink a lot, it's usually down to firework stress :(

Sorry he's not "old" older - he's only 3!

But he's older than my other dog!!
