your experiences / knowledge of this cross would be much appreciated. I may have the offer of a puppy, and am wondering what the temperament is likely to be like in this sort of x.
seems like two TOTAlly different types of temperament, so if any of you know any dogs of this x, I'd love to hear about what they have turned out like!
thanks everyone.

The guy i bought one of my lurchers off had one. Called a Whirrier, a whippet x terrier is generally a working dog, so if its parents are working/racing bred whippet x working jrt type, stop thinking about show bred whippets and kc prt's.. cos these is different!
Hopefully, the cross should result in a long legged racy dog, with the speed and sighthound abilities of the whippet and the terrier tenacity and gameness of the jrt. In all likelyhood this will be a fairly independant dog needing firm training and probably have a tendancy to be quite gobby.

thankyou so much for your response! I found it really helpful - it pulled it into focus for me at a time when I was getting all fluffy - thoughted about a puppy. I actually am not keen on JR's, and do not want a gobby dog!
sometimes, when a puppy is in front of you, rational thought dissapears..
there is one does agility and it is a great dog.

If you don't like JRTs then for heaven's sake don't get a dog that has been crossed with one because you simply won't know which, if either, breed tendencies will be dominant. In fact, on behalf of misunderstood JRTs everywhere, please steer well clear since I can only predict grief all round!
PS. Any dog will be "gobby" if you encourage it!
ah, do you think JR's have a mixed reception, and maybe preconceptions about them that are quite undeserved.

I'd agree, kitty although having got a JRT I'm probably biased! They are by no means automatically snappy or yappy but they have boundless energy, lots of attitude and need to be kept well occupied. They are very "terrier" and indeed, a friend of mine always swears that if you compared a JRT with a stick of seaside rock, JRTs would have "**** You"! written right through them! Unfortunately, some of them end up in quite the wrong sort of homes because they've been bought for their undeniably cute appearance whereas in reality, they are country dogs who don't do half as well cooped up in flats and are certainly not lap dogs even though they are very affectionate.

It is worth remembering that terriers are BRED to be gobby and independant and fiesty. You can learn to control it, but if thats not someting you want to battle with then avoid the terriers, especially those from working bred lines!
(Must point out here, two of my dogs have some terrier ancestry so im not just some rabid anti terrier person here!!)
