Please advise the availability of rescue bitch puppies (this is not for a child's Christmas present !!!)
I would like the pup for myself.  I already have 2 cats and the Blue Cross suggested that I should get a rescue puppy and not a rescue dog as they may fight and not get on well together.

Please advise if you can help me - my name is Chris and e-mail address is Chris@cats992.wanadoo.co.uk

Thank you.
Chris

You don't specify which breed you're interested in, but if you don't mind which you'll usually find any rescue centre gets puppies in shortly after Christmas when shallow people have got bored with them.

Hi, most of the adult dogs in rescue centres have ended up in there through no fault of their own and not all of them will fight. Some dogs come in with no history but are watched carefully and the staff will advise you on their temperament. Other dogs come in with full history so you know what you are getting. If you are thinking of a rescue dog please go in with an open mind, most pups are snapt up and the older dogs are overlooked when they have so much to offer.

Guest, I know a lot of people will disagree with what we did some years ago but .....  We took on a young rescue adult collie (the big, old-fashioned type) who had been in rescue kennels for a year after being picked up as a stray.  He met our own dogs and was OK with them, in fact he loved my little papillon bitch.  Cats were an unknown quantity.  I had at least 3 at the time (I can't remember now exactly how many as I used to breed Birmans).  We watched the dog very carefully when he was first introduced and there were no problems.  In fact the ONLY problem we ever had was that he bit someone - and without provocation!  Fortunately no damage was done but it honestly was his only problem.  He had already been castrated.  There's plenty of other rescue centres around - why not try some of them?

Or here http://www.rykat.org/forums/index.php?act=idx (you will have to copy n paste taht one, links dont like me).

If you want a specific breed then seek out specific breed rescues who may WELL have pups coming in jan/feb/march time when tose who foolishly got tem as christmas presents have realised what hard work it is and have handed tem over.
