I noticed the other day some posts about why people called their pets certain names and i wanted to ask others how they came to choose names.

My Lab X was called Cleo(patra, not renault clio!!!) she also was my honey, baby, darling...basically she was such a doll she always knew when i was calling her no matter what name i used.

Now I have 2 Chocolate Labs. The male is Dino(Boy), after a handsome Bollywood actor.
The Female is Drishti(Baba), another Indian name i liked, a character in a Bollywood film. We were going to call her Bipasha after the actress in the first Bollywood film i watched but we thought it was too hard to say!!!!!

The Great Dane we have used to be called Harli but we changed it to Harry when he came to live with us. I wanted to continue the Indian name tradition and considered Arjun but my hubby wouldnt let me!!!!

The next wee girl we have in the future i have in mind to call her Shante.

Hey Julie, hows my baby doing? ;)
- By Harrys Mum [gb] Date 24.11.05 19:46 UTC
Kay

Dino is soooo handsome...he had put on too much weight but has now slimmed down, i think around the time Drishti was in season. She is still too podgy but hopefully that will come off her soon.

I kept looking to see if you had put pictures of your recent litters on your page.

How are things with you?

Julie

I used to have 2 sister cats, one was the typical cat name of Tabitha(but still a beautiful name) and the other was a stunning looking kitten i had to give her a stunning name..Delilah!!!

*Thai* (recently passed over cat) was called this since when I first got him OH said 'First time he s**ts on the carpet- he's tied in a bag and dumped in the river :-o '-he was joking of course!  I changed the spelling to something a bit nicer :-D

*Kassie* GSD, Nickname- 'Kassie Darlin'- KC name has Kassie-- in it, also liked the name Kassie and Sadie but when we finally got her she looked more like a Kassie than a Sadie :-D  Her nickname came about because she really was the perfect puppy, a lovely, darling little baby- like most baby's though- why did she have to grow up :-o The nickname doesn't actually suit her now but hey- it's stuck!

*Rico* GSD- Just liked the sound of it and for anyone who's ever watched Starship Troopers- 'Rico' the main guy is soooooo lovely :-D

*Ellie* GSD, Nickname 'Little Ellie'- Was already called Ellie when she came to us and it suits her fine and I rather like the name.  Because Kassie's so big she makes Ellie look small and so the nickname came about and stuck :-)

Just to add- Rico's nickname is 'Rico Sh*tpot' since he was the puppy from hell- now a lovely well mannered adult :-)  All the nicknames just kind of stuck....regardless :-)

my two are 'Teka' (yellow lab bitch) because we wanted something short, no more than two syllabals, didn't sound like a command or ended 'ee' (the cats all end with an 'ee' sound). A friend had two chinchillas called Kebab and Jalfrezi, so a suggestion of Teka (as in tikka massala) was made, and so Teka was born! As for Buna (7mth choccy lab dog), it seemed fitting he be named after a curry aswell. He gets 'Bu' (boo) most of the time though, which i like. We plan on getting another in a year of so, and that one'll be Rogan!!

sad, sad, sad......:D

What a fantastic idea....Indian Curries...LOL
- By WendyH [gb] Date 28.11.05 12:05 UTC
Our collie is called Linnet (a bird) - because my daughter was under the misapprehension that she was getting a dainty, feminine little bitch!
The whippet is Ben - just a nice short, easy boy's name
My papillon is Sunny - also known as Sunny Bunny, Sunny Sunshine or a few other unspeakable names - because papillons have a very sunny nature.
None of their pet names bears any resemblance to their KC names!
- By guiness [gb] Date 28.11.05 14:13 UTC
Guiness, the OH's idea as he is black and tan.GSD.Polly short for polaris as her mother was called star, but polly is the brightest star by far.
