Topic Dog Boards / General / 'Amichien' homes only, please!

Browsing through various dog rescue sites - I live in hope that I'll be able to squeeze another one in somehow - I came across a particular breed rescue (I won't say which as I don't want to cause Admin any problems but regular readers can probably guess) that said the dogs were looking for 'Amichien' homes! (You-know-who was listed on the links.)

My first thought was: how small minded to limit the chances for these dogs by subscribing so strongly to one particular method; it's like religious people believing they have a monopoly on morals.  I haven't had second thoughts yet but perhaps someone with a cooler head could suggest some. Am I being unreasonably narky?

(By the way I mean no offense to anyone who believes in God(s), it's just that some of us don't and still try to live decent lives with an ethical foundation.)

if you dont agree with that particular rescues way of rehoming then vote with your feet and choose a rescue which you do agree with, there are allways thousands of dogs out there needing new homes in hundreds of rescue centres across the country. Good luck with your search and dont let it bother you, just move on and look elsewhere :-)

I guess that this isnt really any different to rescues that state they will never rehome to homes with children under 10 or to people who work. Each in its own way is probably excluding very good homes with these sweeping statements. So long as they dont put down healthy dogs and they are actually doing checks preperly and not using these sweeping statements instead, I guess I dont really have a problem with it.

What does Amichien mean?

If people see the dog they really want won't they just say yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir!

'Amichien bonding' and 'amichien' is a concept/brand coined by Jan Fennel. Its a 'one size fits all' training/behaviour theory that I and a great many other people find, for want of ruder words 'incredibly duff'!

Hmm interesting.  The website says she and her son have (B.A.) hons but doesn't say what subject.

Harrys new mum, amichien means nothing at all, it is Jan Fennels "language" that she uses with dogs

How have the rest of us managed all these years?

If you do not subscribe to the ethos behind the centre, do not support it, personally I do not subscribe to the ethos of never putting a dog down and  believe that keeping dogs for their natural lives in virtual prison like some charities is not in the animals interests so I do not support these myself.

It can often be surprisingly irrelevant to humans too! :)
