Ball came down the stairs, 6 month pup (Utonagan so he's large breed) caught it as it came through the gate & swallowed it whole. That was two days ago & I don't think he has passed it yet. He seems fine, very lively, eating & drinking no problem, plenty coming out other end! I don't want to put him through an x-ray if it's not necessary - what would others do please?
Id take him to the vets just so the vet can feel his abdomen, surely if there was a bouncy ball in there he would feel it.

Thanks LeanneK
vet couldn't feel anything so back to square one. No clinical signs of obstruction so will wait a bit longer & hope he passes it naturally. You need eyes in the back of your head at times!

Nightmare arent they sometimes..... Maybe if you look round the house you might find the bouncy ball, or do you think Im being a bit too optomistic? My pup keeps eating Moss that falls off the garage roof...... Dont you feel like their shadow sometimes following them all around and sods law I always seem to miss the really naughty stuff.
Just seen this website about a lhapa apso in USA http://www.thepetcenter.com/xra/ball.html
Sorry cant do links. The ball was in there 10 years!

Oh blimey! There were two witnesses who saw him swallow the ball, unfortunately - the two who allowed the ball to bounce down the stairs, by mistake, I must add. I'm off to check the garden (in the pouring rain!) in case the ball has reappeared, if you get my drift.

Have you any idea what the ball was made of? Stupid question I know, but if it was latex, it can be digested without doing any harm and you won't see it come out of the other end! If it's a small ball (an inch in diameter or so) I wouldn't worry too much as my TM puppy used to eat rather large stones when he was a considerably smaller dog than he is now and either puke or poo them back several days later. It could appear any time in the next couple of weeks! However, if he goes off colour, you know to take him to the vet's a.s.a.p.

Thanks Phoebe
apparently it was made of rubber & solid, probably an inch or so in diameter & bright green - easy to see if it reappears! I'll keep checking & hope he manages to pass it. He's always eating something he shouldn't, need eyes in the back of your head!
Thanks for your help
HI there , dont want to worry you but my mams jack russell ate a hedgehog not the real type ,made out of latex,my mam was on hoildays so took rush to the vets for a check up and all seemed well.Mam came back for her holidays was told her what had happened,A few weeks later rush brought up some of the hedgehog another trip to the vets again she was given the all clear.Cannot remember how long after the last visit to the vets but the same thing happened again , she was taken back in and the vet opened her up , only to find , more pieces of the hedgehog!!! , feet , nose, squeaker!! Now all latex toys are banned!!!

At last the ball has reappeared phew!!
I didn't mind cleaning up the vomit at 5am this morning at all. There it was sat in the middle - just as it looked when it was swallowed hole.
He had tried to be sick twice but otherwise no problem - voracious appetite as usual.
Relief in our house all round!
