Just wondering if anyone can give me abit of advice, my pups are now coming up to 8 weeks old .. all are fully weaned eating 4 meals a day, but mum is still producing lots of milk and insisting on still feeding them 2-3 times per day is this normal ? she still has so much milk that it actually drips from her teats, she is eating normally , no signs of mastitis she is perfectly healthy besides being a little underweight obviously due to how much pups have taken from her, she is gaining weight with every day. will the milk stop once the pups start to go to their new homes or will the amount of milk she is preducing cause a problem if the pups are suddenly no longer feeding from her? should i take her to the vet to have this checked out ?
any advice would be a great help

As long as the pups are allowed to feed off her she will produce milk. The pups should be weaned off the mum before they go to their new homes. I've never had to get help to dry up my bitches milk, it's always been a gradual procedure the less the pups take, the less she makes. If you suddenly stop the bitch will become very uncomfortable. Are the pups getting enough puppy food and water to drink, when are you letting her in with her pups -before or after they have had a meal?

Just let her in twice in the next few days then cut down to once. Really at this point a bitch wouldn't want to feed her pups.
thanks for your replies,
the pups are getting plenty of food and drink, one problem we are having is keeping her away from the pups now as when we seperate them she barks whines and scratches at their door to get into them, when we allow her into them it is usually about half way between their meals so they really shouldnt be hungry, i should also add that not all of the pups are still feeding from her only a couple of them, i myself would have thought that at this point she wouldnt be wanting to feed them but she is more than happy to, to the point that while feeding them she is still cleaning them as tho they are newborns :-s i will definately try keeping them seperate longer and reduce the amount of time she spends with them
