Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Cavalier KC Spaniel temperament

Hi..... I'm looking to get a Cavalier KC Spaniel and would just like to know about their temperament. I have a cat so would they settle well together? Also I work for 4 hours a day ... are they ok being left on their own or do they need company all the time. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Cavaliers usually mix really well with cats.  4 hours a day should be okay to be left, but NOT when it is a puppy, then you need somebody there pretty much all the time.

The standard says something like 'affectionate and absolutely fearless'. My boy barks at cats he sees across the street, but I know loads of Cavalier people who have cats, so I'm sure if he grows up with them he'll be fine. :-)

Pretty much all dogs will chase away or bark at cats that they don't live with, their own is a different thing. :)

My dog lives with 3 cats and he still has a go at cats in the street and he is a collie x

Yes, that's what I thought. Mind you, the one time he met one off lead in the park, it hissed at him and he immediately sauntered off trying to look unconcerned! :-D
