What are you favourite Christmas songs - can be of the Cliff Richard variety or traditional Carols  :-)

My favourites are:

Hark The Herald Angel Sings (reminds me of Midnight Mass as a kid)
Mistletoe & Wine (first time my Mum and I ever got tipsy together we sang this and it always brings a smile to my face)  :-)
In the Bleak Midwinter (again brings back childhood memories)

The Snowman (Walking in the Air) always makes me feel very Christmassy!!

Oh I would be hard pushed to chose between that and Slade. Guess Slade just gets it as I had such a FAB time at their concert a few years ago, it was just a couple of days before Christmas and they couldnt empty the place for people singing it. Slade must have played it at least half a dozen times. Needless to say I sang myself horse :D
- By ice_queen Date 24.11.05 15:12 UTC

Fairytale of New York is my favourite too :)

Having worked in varios high street stores over the christmas period in the past and been subjucted to Christmas songs on a loop for weeks on end....I can safely say that I hate all other Christmas songs. I used to very much enjoy destroying the tapes in January :D

- By Natalie1212 Date 24.11.05 15:30 UTC
Well up until last year my favourite Christmas song was All I want for Christmas (is yoooouuuuuuu - Mariah) but now Thomas is old enough to get involved with all of the Chirstmas things, it has to be his 'version' of Santa Claus is Coming to Town, he sings the whole song and dances away, makes me feel all tingly - even in July!!! :D
- By Lyssa [gb] Date 24.11.05 16:36 UTC
Love that Mariah song too, makes me go all fuzzy everytime I hear it, George Michael's Last Christmas is fantastic!!!  But for traditionals. Silent Night is my all time favourite. (Mainly because I learnt to play it on the organ) Nooooo........... not that type of organ! :-D
- By Charanda [de] Date 24.11.05 15:41 UTC
Mmmmm we can do mulled wine!!  :D  Though I also have a bit of a thing for Baileys come Winter - I've got through 2 x 1litre bottles already!!  lol  :D
- By thomas-the-spot [in] Date 24.11.05 15:46 UTC
The power of love Frankie goes to Hollywood.  Not quite sure if it comes under the heading of christmas carol but they usually have it on most christmas albumns
- By Charanda [de] Date 24.11.05 15:49 UTC

Thankyou husband for that input (sad man)
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 24.11.05 20:16 UTC
I just LOVE Christmas songs, from the traditional carols (O Little Town of Bethlehem is a favourite) through the classic Phil Spector ones, the 70's ones from Wizzard etc ...love them :D
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 24.11.05 20:52 UTC
I haven't really got a favourite, i love them all!! (Even the extremely cheesey ones!) Probably my all time fave if i have to choose, is "do they know  its christmas", the ORIGINAL one, not that rubbish one they released last year!
- By munkeemojo Date 24.11.05 21:09 UTC
i really like Elton John's 'Step into Christmas'. Its one of those super cheesy ones that is always playing in shops. I always sing along. Its in my car ready to go!
- By Boxer Mum Date 24.11.05 21:19 UTC
Deffinately Fairytale of New York followed closely by Stop the Cavalry and Wizzards Wish it could be christmas everyday - oh and the Waitresses one Christmas Wrapping, jolly little number :)

Not long to go - 4 weeks and 3 days, think I'm more excited than the kids :D
- By Charanda [de] Date 25.11.05 08:28 UTC
Can't remember what its called again but it goes

And its lovely weather
For a sleigh-ride together
With you!!

:D
- By shadbolts [gb] Date 25.11.05 10:26 UTC
Fairytale of New York is my favorite too even if the lyrics are a bit dodgy:

You're a bum
You're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Living there almost dead on a drip
In that bed

You scum bag
You maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God
It's our last

:D :D

Reminds me of the time I bought the OH a Beautiful South album, she put it on in the car with our 3 daughters sitting in the back, the first track is "Don't marry her".  The lyrics are not quite the same as the version released as a single :D :D
- By Charanda [de] Date 25.11.05 10:34 UTC
I know what you mean shadbolts about The Beautiful South song - it wasn't really "marry" me was it?!?!  ;-)

I've been humming Christmas songs all morning so far at work - I'm on "Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree" at the moment!!  :-)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.11.05 10:38 UTC
I think it was Ken Bruce who accidentally played that version on Radio 2 once! You rarely hear such panic and crashes on the wireless as he desperately tried to stop it! :D :D
- By Charanda [de] Date 25.11.05 10:59 UTC
lol  :D  :D
- By redstaffy [gb] Date 25.11.05 11:07 UTC

Grandma got ran over by a reindeer :D

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinkin' too much egg nog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she'd left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into the snow.

When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack.
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now were all so proud of Grandpa,
He's been takin' this so well.
See him in there watchin' football,
Drinkin' beer and playin' cards with cousin Belle.

It's not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family's dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of pig.
And a blue and silver candle,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig.

I've warned all my friends and neighbors.
Better watch out for yourselves.
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
