How many days into a bitches cycle is about right for breeding?
In my Staffie book it says second week, about 10 - 12 days in?
Can anyone confirm this, i realise that all bitches are slightly different.
Many thanks
this is a risky subject at the moment......
i take it that if you dont know when to mate her your not a breeder?

Considering she is a good breed example and you have researched pedigree lines etc aswell as getting all neccessary health tests completed the time to breed her is very much an individual thing.Bitches can stand from day 9-10 to day 20+.

please read the "can you breed a 7 yr old staffie" thread....

Quite a shame really as visitors to the site who may have been thinking the same things as you regarding mating their pets could have gleaned a fair bit :(
because it hit 100 replys

Pilch,
If you have had all the neccessary health checks for your bitch , have you thought about having blood tests or vaginal swabs taken to determine the correct time for mating?

Thank you for all the helpful advice sorry
for not replying sooner. I am asking because my partner
and i have a three year old Staffie Male who we are hoping to stud.
He has had all his health checks and has a very good pedigree.
I am trying to research all the information i can before taking on
the responsibillity of becoming a stud owner. knowing when to advise
bitch owners to bring there dogs at or near the right time is important
info which i should know.

What health checks has he had, and what's his show record? There are many Champion staffies out there at stud - why should people choose your boy over those ones?
May i just add, there are alot of champion stafford studs correct, but there are just as many if not better staffords that are never shown, personally after watching some judges and showing myself,it is a well known fact you do me a favour i'll do you one.
most of the time it's the person holding the lead that is judged not the dog,we went to a big show a few years back and our friend put every dog in the right order, not because of the dog but because of it's owner.
also make sure your dog is tested for L2-HGA,and eye tested.

I will make sure he gets all the tests you have suggested
He has had his eye test. He has never shown, all of his family have,
as we bought him from a reputable breeder who rightfully grilled us
for some time before parting with him, i would expect no less.
Thamks again for all your helpful input.

Also ask his breeder for help - if she is a good responsible breeder she will give you all the necessary info on compatible lines etc. Have you checked his KC registration for endorsements?

I have know bitches caught on day 18 they all vary. The bitches owners can have them checked for ovulation before bringing them to you. Otherwise expect to board them to catch them on the right days. Studding is not for the faint hearted.
