I had some blood tests done last week, still got the bruises to prove it

Anyway my colesterol levels are fine but my glucose level was above the accepted level but not too much.

I have been told that I am going to have to have yearly blood tests.

I am slightly confused as if it is above normal levels then surely more investigation is needed now ? I was on the verge of having pregnancy induced diabetes with Indigo and know that there is a higher risk of developing the full Monty.

As I don'y know alot about the subject (although my BIL has it so should know more) can anybody who is a Diabetic or knows abit more about the subject perhaps can just put my mind at rest and say that I am fine waiting for a test in a year ! :) I only had a two minute converstion with my Doc so perhaps need to go and have a sit down chat with her :)

Thanks

Lucy

Get in touch with the surgery and find out what it was.  Then tell us had you ate anything before having the test etc.  Then might be able to put your mind at rest :d

My mum was told that she was borderline diabetic for 6 years and was going yearly to the hospital.  She went earlier this year and was seen by a GP who told her that she wasn't diabetic!!  Never thought she was, but I suppose at least she's been having her eyes tested etc. frequently due to it :d

My dad is an insulin dependant diabetic.  If you can get the glucose level then we can look more into it.

as perrodeagua says you need to phone and find out what it means

My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes years and years ago.  He had to cut down on all sugar.  He had to go for blood tests every 6 months but now only every year because his blood sugars are as normal as non-diabetics.  He also eats virtually what he likes, but is just sensible about amount of sugar intake and likes a couple or 3 pints at the weekends and is fine.  So it's not always as drastic as you might think and not all doom and gloom so try not to worry too much.

Hi Lucy,

I'm not too hot on human illnesses at all  but agree with the others and your own thoughts too that maybe another more in-depth chat with your GP is in order - it will hopefully set your mind at rest.

God bless, Teri xxx

I have problem's with my pancrius, that causes low blood sugar, I really would get my doctor to explain what the problem is and the prognosis, you can only get the real fact from him

I'm diabetic and have to keep my BS's between 4 - 7, just had my 6 monthly check up and I was running at 5.8.

I was 9 years old when diagnosed, then it was awful, but now it's just a way of life.  I've been diabetic for 34 years, had 4 children, eye sight is perfect, no problems with my feet or circulation......as long as you look after yourself it really doesn't have to be a problem.

Sorry that you're being worried by this Lucy.

I think that the next step will be a 10-hour fasting blood test - to see how the blood sugar levels look then!   I've had the same sort of readings as you, but when I've had the fasting blood tests, everything comes up normal - although I've been warned that I am in a "pre-diabetic" state - so I do approach what I eat and drink with a little more thought than I used to :D

You could always get one of the machines and monitor it yourself. I have been thinking of doing it as I am a classic case for it. Over weight and father has it.

Our surgery has practice nurses who specialize in diabetic patient care & it might be worth having a chat with a nurse at your practice if they have one like ours does

I'm a type 2 diabetic & have a cousin with type 1 so we are very diet aware. it's worth checking that you don't eat too much stuff with added or high sugar content & most fruit & veg is ok(except my favourite grapes :( )

I had two 10 fasting tests & they both showed I was diabetic. We have a yearly climic that we have eye sight & blood tests etc done at & then a follow with a GP a coiple of weeks later. I do daily glucose wee tests but I'm seriously considering going down the blood test machine route as I have problems holding the tests strips !(won't go into details ;))

If you are concerned you can simply get some of the wee tests strips & do a daily check It is simple unless you have problems with your grip in your hands like I do ;)

Edited to add one of the GP's at the surgery told me I didn't have diabetes as i was controlling it with my diet  he told me he didn't like to label type 2 diabetics !!!! When I mentioned this to the GP who takes the clinics he gave me a wry smile & told me that the only reason my blood tests etc showed an acceptable glucose level was my diet & if I went on to a normal diet & stopped the sugar reduction I would end up on medication a lot quicker ! Apparently the other GP doesn't like labelling patients period !

I'm type 1 and have two injections a day, it's a good idea to buy a blood monitoring machine, you can get them for around £11 in most good chemists.
