Hi All,
Some of you may remember that I posted a few weeks back sayign that Kiera was limping - she's now 6 months old. She is still limping! The limp seems to move from leg to leg, front to back etc adn mainly affets her when she first gets up after sleeping - within about 30 seconds she is back to normal mad self.
I had a long chat with the breeder and she told me that Kiera's sister is the same and that she has seen it all before and is convinced it's 'growing pains'. I was fine with this as I really do trust our breeder she's great! It's the fact that the stiffness has moved to the back that worries me and it comes and goes - if we took her to the vet it wouldn't happen & we don't want to put her through an Xray/anaesthetic unnecessarily!! We can tell she's had another growth spurt recently and she is a big girl for a bitch, very stocky! We also know her parents hip/elbow scores were very, very low 0 on her dads elbows in fact!
Does anyone else on here have any experience of this with a lab? Just looking for some reassurance really.
Thanks
Nicky x

Sounds very much like panosteitis to me.
Hi Nicky
I've seen quite a lot of this in young well boned Labs and I do think that with them it has been growing pains. I remember having them myself as a child too!
A couple of mine have had them and have gone on to have nice low hip and elbow scores and work all shooting season with no probs. The young Labs that I have seen have all been bright enough in themselves and the lameness has been really noticable after resting.
It might be an idea to have a word with your vet though to be on the safe side and for your own peace of mind.
Good Luck.
Sounds like panosteitis to me, as well,my Goldie did this at 7 months and I took him to the vet for a check, said that if it gets better after exercise it is likeley to be growing pains.
We were put on Metacam for 5 days and told to cut down on the exercise for a few days, we did and he was fine.
HTH.
Hi, I have had this I two of my labs, sounds like pano to me. Just keep an eye and restrict exercise. Charlies lasted for about 4 months! Both he and Clara running about with no problems now. Best of luck.
I had similar problems with one of my labs and changing early to an adult diet helped slow growth and stop the problem.
