Just had a renewal from the Kennel Club of £225 per annum???  Having 2 dogs to insure, it works out very expensive! is there another company that is good and reliable that they can recommend please??

I need vets fees and all the otherthings, or am I being tight!!!! is this the normal average for dog insurance.

Apart from trolling round and asking questions I though the best place to ask is on here!
Any comments would be appreciated.

I think it depends on what you want.  I'm with petplan, and they do three different levels of insurance - I took out the top one which covers unliminted vets fees but that is just because of my financial position, should the worst happen and an expensive operation or something be needed I'm not in a position to be able to get my hands on thousands of pounds.  So I'd rather pay the £20.00 a month for that peace of mind.  But they do have lower ones available, I think the next one down is vet fees up to about £5000.00 which I guess would cover most things and I think that is about £15.00/£16.00 a month and then they have a lower one still.  Also if you insure three animals with them you get a discount. :-)  Still costs me £40.00 a month between my dog and two cats though!

Also with Petplan once you have taken out insurance with them your pet can be covered for life regardless of ongoing health problems. Which I know some companies don't do.  All their policies are available on their website.

Depending on whereabouts you live and what dogs you have - that is cheap compared to mine :D I'm currently paying around £40 per month with Petplan for two dogs. Unfortunately, due to one of them having to have treatment last year which may cause problems in the future I can't afford to move them :( However, Petplan ARE very good, so at least I'm stuck with a good company :)

Try Direct Line, they are very reasonable in fact possibly the cheapest.  They offer 2 levels of Cover one lifetime against accident or illness and the other the normal yearly.
I have made loads of claims with them and they always settle up promptly with no quibble direct to the vet if you wish.
I can't reccomend them highly enough.

I'm with Direct Line, 2 dogs for £25 a month and thats for lifetime cover.

I am with m&s recentiy i put a claim in and my vet charged me £10.50 admin fee for them to fill in there part and send it off  and they said i can claim it back as they add it on the form
Does anyone know if you can claim back the admin fee from m&s as i am not sure??

I'm with M&S and they have different options. As we are on a low income at the moment, we have chosen the 'No Excess' option. I am paying £14.39 per month for my dobe. Would be less if you choose to pay an excess. But I think it is fantastic and is the only insurer I know that doesn't ask you to pay any excess. I haven't had to claim yet, but I have heard very good reports for claiming through them.

Were also with M&S had a claim a while ago and they were brilliant. We also have their no excess policy which is brilliant.

I have M&S and if I remember rightly, it is so cheap to not have the access that it only cost a few pounds more!

Lofty - I don't think any insurance will pay for the administration charges the vet sets.  It is my one bugbear with my vet too, I wouldn't mind but I fill in most of the form, they only have one bit and a signature to do.

BTW, my vet charges £5, well at least he did last time I claimed.

I was told yesterday by a friend of mine who has 3 cats and 3 dogs, that she has just started using Tesco's Pet Insurance and pays just under £40 a month for the 6 animals,  I shall be having a look at this myself (sounds very good value) might be worth a try.

I phoned m&s up and they don't cover admin charges so everytime one of my lot is sick I have to folk out a tenner on top of the bill just for the vet to fill in his bit and send it off to a freepost address GRRRRRRRRRRRR which i won't get back but at least i get back the what i payed for the treatment it's all money money money with some vets

My dog and 2 cats cost me £18 a month to insure, there is no excess, as i pay £4 more for that a year! It would cost about a tenner more with petplan, and on top of that i'd have to pay an excess.

I like m&s as i can make claims on small treatments such as an x-ray £30 ish and they will pay out, whereas if i had to pay an excess, there would be no point in claiming as the excess would be more than cost of treatment!

Its upto personal preference though...

My Pet Plan insurance quote came back after the 6 weeks free that you get at £22 per month for one tiny puppy!

2 cats with Direct line cost £15 for the pair, but they are over 10 years old now. Puppy with M+S and just about to put in my first claim, so lets hope that they pay out quickly. Used to be with Pet Plan with last dog, but M+S covers complimentary medicine as well and its not got a 12 month limit per claim like some do.
