Seriously, the best food for a dog is one which a) keeps it healthy, b) it enjoys and c) the owner can afford. If your dog is fit, active and has normal stools, the food it's eating is fine.

Amos this is a UK board.

Sometimes newbie americans come on asking about their foods,and it seems nobody here has ever heard of them,doesnt anyone venture to american dog websites?? I think i know just as much about their food as i do ours :o

I think most of us have enough to do keeping up with current events in the UK.........and as you say this is a UK board ;)

I know, but most of the good boards tend to be american.I've found all of the boards i'm a member of including this one by google. If it's good i'll join,if not i wont. I dont really care what nationality they are :) I belong to a couple of singapore sites,i tell ya they are hard to read,they are in English,but they write it as they think it if you know what i mean :)

Do you mean that their English isn't very good?  I write as I think.

As for American sites, I think most people come on here for general tips on dog care so unless you want to go a lot deeper than that there is no need to look at different countries' sites.  I can't see the benefit to me or my dog of knowing about American dog food.

I've looked at American boards but find the mindset too alien. As liberty says, there's always plenty to learn which actually applies to UK dogs! :)

So many things - the fact that many think ear-cropping is acceptable and attractive; the fact that many recommend dogs are never allowed offlead; the fact that many consider dogs to be fashion accessories or Barbie-for-'grown-ups'; ... the list goes on. Obviously there are many sensible American owners, but they are very much in the minority on fora.

Also, of course, America is the country starting the trends for 'teacup' this, that and the other, and all the 'cutesy' crosses. :(

That is a shame.  Have you checked out the prices on these designer dogs?  You can sell ANYTHING here.

Ah, okay.   I frequent a U.S. Cairn forum and don't see any of that there - but that probably has a lot to do with the type of people that tend to choose Cairns.  Not into fashionable dogs.  Not into tiney dogs.  Natural ears and natural tails, nothing removed except dew claws.  Cairns are too lively and independent to be a fashion accessory - and although they may be small enough to fit into an oversized handbag they are definitely too heavy to lug around all day!  

No off lead though .. Cairns are not a breed well suited to be off lead in most areas.

Personally i dont care which country message boards belong to as long as they are interesting,are busy and are loaded with info,i'm happy :)

i cant go on US lists,they are all too keen on prong collars!!!!!!they put them on SHELTIES!!!!!!!!!!! & think thats OK!!!!!!

I'm on a UK/US shared list (with sensible people), where there was a picture ppsted of a rescue CHIHUAHUA with burns around its neck after an electric collar havng been used on it..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must admit i've had my fair share of arguments on the US boards about ear cropping, crates etc. No-one bats an eyelid when another poster comes on and says "my dogs crated for 12 hours a day,is that ok",this i find infuriating and they just can not understand my views when it comes to this. However the US dog forums i go to hate doodles and purposely bred designer dogs just as much as they do here,they also hate e collars and prongs etc. I couldnt stay at a forum that encouraged these things! The americans also seem to be much more open minded and willing to listen when it comes to canine nutrition ;)
