Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Another showing question!

I will be entering 2 of my 3 dogs at the manchester show in january.

The 3rd dog (my daughters), due to his wonky leg, was going not for show, but as I have to pay for his bench anyway I was thinking of entering him as well, even though I know he wont get anywhere.

Would everyone think I had lost the plot entering a dog with a funny leg? (Its not that noticable - but you can see it)

My daughter wants to enter him as otherwise she will be sitting around all day with nothing to do! & I have explained that he wont get anywhere but she is happy with that.

If his operation works on his leg I will be showing him anyway (As long as KC approve) so I think it would be good practice/experience for him.

The leg was first thought to be elbow dysplacia but the specialist said it looks like a  injury prob caused at birth.

Would we get laughed at?

Any thoughts on this please?

Obviously I have no idea of what people are like in staffies, but if it was my dog, I wouldn't do it.At least not at a champ.show. You hear so many people ringside talking and making comments in many breeds (not in my main breed I'm happy to say, but in my other it sure happens) and as you won't be able to go around to everyone and EXPLAIN, people will draw their own conclusions and it may reflect badly on the dog's breeder and his parents.

Take him as Not For Competition by all means but staffies usually have huge entries & I wouldn't put him through being judged & having people pass possibly not so nice comments(within your hearing possibly)about him

Does your daughter do ykc handling? mine loves doing it and although she dosent show in the breed classes coz she dosent like it.

You would certainly get commented on, and if his leg improves later you might find people only remember the time they saw him with a wonky leg. But if you know the biggest gossips in the breed you could make a big thing of telling them that he's just going for fun. I think I'd stick to nfc though. :-)

Thanx!

We are waiting for the YKC membership forms to come  but I will have to send my show entry back before she is a member of the YKC - can she still enter?

Would I have to pay the price for 1st entry (£19) in this?

I have had some negitive comments about showing a blue staffie before so I know what people can be like!! (They were not impressed a blue had got a 3rd)

I will just enter her in to YKC I think - thanx for your help!

I know my daughter would be upset if she heard anyone mention his leg :-(

My daughter is showing in the YKC Stakes class at Manchester, but the KC have said it's compulsory that the dog is also entered in his breed class.  I both phoned them and emailed them about it, because I thought YKC Stakes could be entered as the only class, but I queried it because it says on the schedule (under the YKC class no's) - something like, dog to be entered in one or more of it's breed classes or AVNSC.
Apparently it depends on the individual show, they can either stipulate that you have to enter the breed class as well, or they might just let you enter YKC - rather confusing!
