Hi

My 5 mth old St Bernard puppy is doing quite well in her ringcraft class, BUT i think i need to learn more?
Like which side to wlk your dog on and how to show your dog at its best?
I dont think i am helping my puppy too much lol
can anyone suggest any handling courses near Heathrow?

Your ringcraft ought to be showing you which side of the dog to walk on - in general the rule is to make sure the dog is between you and the judge. Our ringcraft (in Wood Green so not much use to you I don't suppose!) is very good on making us do unusual patterns and having the 'judge' switching sides to keep you on your toes.

Your ringcratf should be teaching you the basic handling tips.

Lucy even I don't keep to the golden rule in breed classes, although use common sence!!!  About turns do me fine at the top of an up and down in breed although handling classes are a different matter!!!! :D

We are all the way up in north hertfordshire so too far for you for an eveing.

That's true Ice Queen, a lot of people cross between the dog just while turning round, and I don't think it matters, though I try to avoid it. It's walking the whole way round a triangle on the wrong side, that the ringcraft should be teaching people not to do. :-)

Hi ice_queen,

Whereabouts in North Herts is your ringcraft class? I know of a very good one in Milton Keynes, but don't know of any in N. Herts.

Cheers,
Patty
