My girl loves bananas, carrots and apples, but I hold back feeding too much of them until I'm sure it's ok, have been reading alot about RAW lately and leafy greens seems to be whats recommended, but she's not too keen!!! she does however love the above 3, especailly carrots and they have to be raw!! Is it ok to give her this stuff as I can't seem to find any info to the contrary???
My dogs love raw carrot and turnip, but I am like you not sure weather its it good for them or not.
I always make extra sunday dinner, so they can have some, they love it.
I am sure someone will know more than me, but as far as I know, dog's can't get any goodness from veggies unless they have been pulped, something about the way their digestive systems work, however having said that, they recommend giving raw veg to puppies to help with the teething process, so I can't see it doing any harm in moderation.
HTH :D
Sorry just to add, there are some fruits and veg that should not be given at all as they are poisoness to dogs, grapes (and therefore raisons) and onions spring to mind, but you might want to double check if there are any others.
Bananas, carrots and apples are all good and fine for dogs - but I wouldn't feed too many of them, as they are also high in sugar (fructose). No harm in them as the occasional treat though!

ty for all your replies, I'm glad to know that it's ok for her to eat them, but would have liked them to be the 'veggie' part of her RAW diet as its quick easy and she loves them, never mind eh!!
Shanti, I think they can be, along with a whole host of different veggies, as long as you zap them in a food processor first :D
Why not type in 'BARF' into the search function on the top right hand of the screen, there are many threads that will go into which veggies are OK, which are better, etc. etc.

Hi ty 4 that Nat!! Maybe you could take a look at my other question, so far no replies....
My dads dog, a collie cross, used to love raw carrots, they never did her any harm, she lived until she was 18 years old !!!!!

Mine get a banana most days and often in a smoothie ie a tub of live yoghurt, a raw egg and a banana whipped up in a food processor is yummy for them.
You can feed all fruits and veggies apart from onions and grapes however you need to be careful not to feed excessive amounts of cruciferous veggies or those containing oxalic acid and if you have a dog prone to arthritis you might want to avoid veggies of the nightshade family.
Bananas need no further treatment as they are readily absorbed but carrots and apples benefit from being pulped or frozen in order for the dogs to get valuable minerals and vitamins from them, otherwise they are just fibre.
Puppies often enjoy whole carrots as a recreational toy/chew but they go out the way they went in!
Sugar may be an issue for overweight dogs or those who have a predisposition to develop yeast overgrowths etc.

I wish my girl unfortunately will not eat veg unless it's well and truly pulped. But fruit is a different matter, she loves oranges, mandarines, peaches and apricots, but she will not eat apples and pears and she's not awfully fussed on bananas. Luckily doesn't like strawberries cos we grow them in our garden - so just the slugs to worry about :D I wonder if she has a thing for the sugar or the vitamin c?
