Hi try looking at Tchibo - they have a website if you don't live near one - they do good ski wear at fantastic prices. We bought ours from there and it was warm enough for Lapland. I don't know how cold it gets where your daughter is going, but this will make a difference to what she needs to take. If its really cold, then a good jacket and sallopettes (go up the back a bit) are a must. Then she may need a fleece and a t-shirt underneath. (Layers are best so that if you get hot you can easily adjust your clothing). If she has the right outerwear, then really she would need roughly the same as for any other winter holiday.
Don't know if she would want thermals (I recommend them if its cold where she's going) but Millets do an excellent well priced range. She will also need hat and gloves (I think mittens are the best, but she may want gloves). Will probably need some goggles - again try Tchibo. Thick socks are a good idea as ski boots can be a bit hard on the feet.
I will have to let her read this post later. She will love it.
The flare gun I suspect is for when you some how slide down the slope opposite the one you are supposed to be on.. only to suddenly notice that it is the one nobody has went down and came out alive :-D :-D LOL the flare gun is incase you do just happen to make it to the bottom with a pulse just to tell them!!!! Mind you , nobody actually bothers to look anymore as no person has made it down alive yet!!!! ;-). LOL
I will tell her your an expert and that you like a lambrini ( not sure what it is with teenagers and that stuff) that is sure to do the trick. !!! Get the ruck sack out. ;-) :-D
Looked out the passport and the Damarts already :D (Poor girl won't know what they are - tell her they're a designer label or I'll be banned before take off  )
My OH's brother is going skiing next year with school and at ski lessons the instructor told him to try matalan or tk max i don't know if you've got them near you but it'd be worth a look because it can get quite expensive, i think the book the school gave them with stuff in priced up at around 2-300 pound Next do ski wear as well, don't know how good it is or how reasonably priced it is either though.
I was at a meeting last night about the trip and they said cheap and cheerful LOL can you imagine 15-16 year old girls cheap and cheerful .. errr no.. :-)
My friends daughter went with the school last year and the tour company hired out the over-clothing, jackets, salapettes, gloves, goggles etc. Which is just as well because she isn't planning on ever going again :) If your school's tour company are not offering this, how about something on the noticeboard offering to buy equipment off the girls that went last year and never want to go again.
Don't bother getting a special ski jacket. Provided you have thermals underneath, normal outdoor-style jacket (I use a Helly Hansen one) is perfectly adequate and can be used again over here. Good gloves are a must though as wet, cold hands = misery. Sunglasses can also be used instead of goggles.
I went skiing last year - as someone else said, if she isn't planning on going again then maybe you don't need to buy the full kit, you could go with a good waterproof winter jacket and put layers under, but having said that - I use my jacket throughout winter at home anyway so it was a good buy.
I'm assuming she is a novice otherwise she would have the kit, in that case she needs good bottoms and gloves (always on the floor :D)
Things I can think of...
Salopettes Ski/Suitable Jacket Good thermal gloves Hat Scalf Ski glasses/goggles (the sun is much brighter up there and normal sunglasses are not suitable protection) Tops to wear under her jacket - I usually wear a cotton long sleeve top under my ski jacket; she may want to layer them or add a fleece if it's not a thermal skiing jacket. Lots of pairs of socks, normal and a few pairs of thick ski type ones (just two or three pairs, she can wash them after she used them and they will dry for use in a day or two) High Factor Sunscreen High Factor Lip Screen/Balm (you get chapped lips so easily)
For nighttime her normal winter clothes will be fine but she will probably need a pair of boots, it depends on where she is going... some places the resorts don't get too much snow/slush, but others do - so its best to be prepared as soggy feet are a nightmare!
Hope that helped. I don't know where you are but the last time I went I kitted myself out with all new (very stylish khaki green & pink ski set :D) got them from a place called 'Boundary Mill' they do end of line stuff and have a big ski selection. I think it cost me £60 for the jacket and £40 for the slopes which was a big saving - the jacket as I said was a good investment because I used it last winter and am already using it again this winter :)
Also, try looking online at international companies for things like the glasses/goggles - hubby bought some special 'over glasses' goggles last time from a French company for a fraction of what they are charging in UK stores and that included delivery. They ski/sell more over there so it's cheaper.
I wear Snowboarding trousers as oppose to Salopettes which I find more practical. I also tend to wear very thin gloves inside the normal ski gloves to provide an extra layer for warmth (as my hands tend to freeze no matter what gloves I get!)
