Check out an animal feed store. Heatlamps are usually stocked for chicks, lambs, etc. and are quite reasonably priced there.

Depends on which type you want.  I get my puppy heat lamps from Diamond Edge, as they do the dull emitter bulbs, all heat no light.  They last ages but are quite expensive.  However, in the runs I use ordinary infra red ones, red coloured, as I think the clear ones are too bright.  I have found these cheapest from an online company called LYCO  - about £3 per bulb cheaper than our local Agricultural merchants.  However, the Agricultuaral places are very cheap for the actual fitments, if it is not just the buld you want.

bye

hi, just come on to ask advice on heat lamps and most of what i need is already here ! The only unaswered question i have is - does anyone know which type of lamp is less likely to explode or shatter ? has anyone had experience of the dull emmiters doing this?

One of the things I keep in my whelping kit is a spare heat bulb. HAve two lamps, so if one went kaputt I hope the spare woud still be OK.

thanks gwen for the tips, i will ensure i do have a spare bulb too, have been looking at the lamps you suggested, all heat & no light, have used this type in the past & thought they were much better, am also looking at the infra red 1's, just incase i opt for 1 of those too
thanks again

i buy and oil fin heater and place it about 1 meter away from the box it warms the pups to the right temperature how ever in summer i dont use anything because i live in a hot part of australia and i am constantly trying to cool the puppies born in summer down during the day in the middle of summer i have tempretures of 36 degrees and during the night no less than 28 degrees but in winter i use oil fin heaters i find that way the puppies dont get to hot the room stays at a perfect temp ofcourse the electricity bill goes thru the roof
