could you please let me know if all the breeders on this website are kennel club registered.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 08.07.02 16:46 UTC
Breeders are not KC registered - they can if they wish apply for an affix. Puppies are KC registered or not again depends on if the breeder wishes to or not, it is an expensive business. Not realy sure what it is you wish to know can you ask your question in a different way and do you mean on the message board or members who advertise their kennel or a litter? Jackie H

Litters advertised with Champdogs must be Kennel Club registered and only 'official' Kennel Clubs recognised breeds can be included.

i thought all dogs had to be kc reg to be able to become champs, you carnt enter a dog in a show unless they are kc reg, so what do you mean?
- By Leigh [gb] Date 10.07.02 11:10 UTC
To become a Champion, they do have to be KC registered, but some *breeders* do not register their pups with the KC Sheryl :-)

- By Jackie H [us] Date 10.07.02 12:09 UTC

hi, sorry what i was trying to say was i dont think dogs that are not of k.c registered should be bread, but maybe im wrong, i thought unregistered dogs were mungrals, and all prue bread dogs must have a kc, if you see what i mean, sorry for my ignorance. sheryl

The trouble is that KC registration is not a guarantee of *quality* Sheryl.

thanks leigh, ive got a lot to learn, i thought if you got a registered dog you were getting the best, but i grasping what your saying, god its pays to be carefull them, i thought the kc was more important than the pedigree, pedigree doesnt gaurentee a good dog, but i thought a k.c registered dog meant you were getting a good quality pure bread dog, im i wrong on this, sheryl

Sheryl

All KC registration does is confirm the parentage of the dog concerned. It is not a guarantee of good breeding by any means. Similarly - you can have a dog and a bitch, of the same breed lets say Lab's, who mate and produce lovely puppies but they may not be registered with the KC. This may be because the breed of one of the parents applied a restriction preventing any progency(offspring) from being registered or because the breeder chose not to register. This can happen if the bitch has already had a litter registered within the previous 12 months as the KC limit the number and frequency of litters registered to a bitch.

Lack of KC reg's does not mean the dog cannot be pure-bred - simply that it's parentage has not been verified. You cannot KC register the puppies from a mixed breed mating.

KC reg'n provides you with proof that you own the dog concerned and it's recorded parentage. The only way to assure yourself of quality breeding is to get to know the breeder concerned by both reputation and personal contact.

Hope that clarifies things for you.
